Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Are layoffs quarterly?

Layoffs are generally quarterly, mid March, June, Sept and Dec.

Is this true? I'm new to AT&T and I'm still trying to figure out how things work here. I didn't expect I'd have to start worrying about being laid off so soon after starting, but here we are anyway.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Lets face it, ATT is not looking to expand any wireline business. Cell service is all they want. In some areas they even use the cable companies to transport to the cell towers.

I worked in the CO and had 19 years and was laid off in March 2019 also.

Depends on your location and if you are under a Union contract. If you are CWA, your contract book will spell it out in detail. Here in the SE, we have had the surplus announcement every quarter for over 20 years. Since the contract layoffs are by seniority, new folks could get the ax. Good luck

Disagree that new hires are safe. I was surplused after 3 years.

Some of the older managers still value seniority which puts recent hires at a disadvantage

Union wise-yes...Allows the Union to put a lil sand paper on the process and makes the Company think twice at time thwarting the whole process.

I agree w/prev person. New hires may be safe for a few years but you never know. If i was you I would learn all you can quickly. Transfer to another position in AT&T and learn more. Then look outside AT&T for another job at a company who isn't doing so many layoffs.

21yrs and they dumped me as of 3/29/19.

There's no such thing as a set schedule. You joined a company with about a quarter million employees, give or take. They are divided up into large business units, each going at its own pace on its own schedule, and layoffs can come, or not come, at any time.

Welcome, btw. The words I can offer you are this: do well at your job, always seek to enjoy it, and look for something else if you don't. If there's any consolation, I'd b say that new hires (non-union) are not targeted for layoffs. It's those who have been around the block a few times and are making more money. Face it: you're cheap compared to them.

Best of luck!
