Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

DirecTV Future

Question with Donovan talking about launching there last satellite last November and from what sounds like moving to the Directv Now platform. What is the vision of at&t?

Most DirecTV customers have chosen so because they are one of the following:

A. In an area that doesn't have a good or cheap broadband or cable provider.

B. HUGE NFL fans

C. Despise cable or the idea of lines connecting there TV and actually prefer a dish

D.Have multiple homes or an RV and prefer a dish and only paying one account

So basically they're forcing customers who prefer dishes and have 2 choices in that matter (Dish or DirecTV) onto a platform they either never wanted or can't have as well as having multiple competitors instead of just one. Not too mention going from an area they're clearly #1 (Satellite TV) to one they're way behind on (Direct Now).

Alot of customers still don't believe or want to rely on broadband connection for there tv or in still alot of areas can't. Are they assuming it's just going to be that easy of a transition or is this just a grandiose idea of some exec with no clue.

Also i understand 5g will be faster speeds but that's not going to fill in the many missing areas that ALOT of dish customers live in.

Trying to get in the mind of higher ups without being a smart butt about it. Makes ZERO sense to me.

It's been said before - the future is to push customers onto a streaming platform in areas with broadband, or 5 gee whiz or fiber. Which means the customers in the Metro areas. For the rich folks with private country estates, horse ranches and vineyard homes, they will still get DTV over Sats.

Of course, as our satellites die off over the next 8 years we will have to cut channels; but that's the price you pay for living in the country Mr. Millionaire retiree.

At least until the low orbit Internet sats come on line - then DTV is toast even in the woods.

a lot of people want fibre to their house. I have no desire to even touch a satellite. We should multiple fibre choices in this country but it is more important to make movies so we can have more movie stars and take more selfies.
