Keeping in mind that the main focus and the main direction of the company has very little to do with the landine, are they going to start the process of slowly dismantling this part of the company? In translation, are the folks from landline in most danger of being cut, when cuts start at T?

@2hdi...agreed on most..IDK if T is directly keeping anybody else out of the business. Building a network from scratch would be expensive. It has been done on an extremely small scale by some local municipalities. Nothing large scale to my knowledge. Google has tried, but I think they are finding out it ain't as easy as they thought it might be.
Makes me wonder why T hasn't taken some of their millions from other parts of their portfolio and invested more in their Network over the years since they already have the foundation (CO's, RT's, pole routes/strand, buried ROW'S, etc). I know cable is expensive, but we all have places where we could have already placed brand new cable 5 times cheaper than what we have spent patching the old stuff over the years. Copper can do good things if it's maintained. This c-ap we have now is getting to where it's only good for a clothesline.

yeah who gets to decide where to put fiber - randy? sorry try again. fiber should be pervasive in this country and it isn't because of people like randy. high speed internet is way behind the rest of the world thanks to bean counters like randy. but yet they will buy companies to make movies. randy is example number one why our country is behind. att is probably keeping other companies from putting fibre down so they can keep their monopolies. randy and stankey are just following microsoft's model and just sue anybody from entering the market.

No one wants the landline business. You said it yourself, if it isn't profitable why keep it. If it isn't profitable, why buy it?

AT&T Needs to keep all the access in place> As much as they would like everyone to have broadband some old timers will be dead set on keeping their POTS. They need the access to deliver all the content of all of the media services they are launching.
att should sell the landline business off - looks like they are trying to k--l it. if it isn't so profitable why keep it. if it is profitable stop trying to control the industry.
No....Landlines will be around for a while. They may get renamed Lanlines because AT&T wants everyone to have their phone service moved to Voip. This includes a Fax line also. And in order to go to Voip you will need your drop line, either copper or fiber, for the internet service. AT&T was on a high horse at one time thinking that they will provide everybody fiber to their homes, but found out it was going to cost too much to do and maintain. There are some states/cities that they will invest in for fiber but it is usually a high income area. They are now realizing that putting fiber in the air, pole to pole, is getting costly in maintaining. I've been with AT&T for 22 years and have heard the talk, for years, about dumping the landline. Until everything moves to all wireless landlines will be around for some time.

The same people that install, design, and maintain the infrastructure that feeds wireless equipment install, design, and maintain landlines as well.
Since the executives now talk about landline services in reference to fiber that goal is very achievable.
I recently read an article on Fox News thar said Trump is mandating we keep landlines active until 2030. I think that’s a great idea.
