Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Corporations adjusting to Millennials

If millennial's look for a company culture to allow them to become their best selves and emphasis personal growth above all. They may have little commitment to a long term relationship with a company.

If this is true it make me think that AT&T also knows this and is working to capitalize on this mentality. AT&T would ask for high skills, continued certifications connected to work capabilities.

AT&T may continue to roll off employees claiming their skills are not in line with the company needs. In reality they know that millennial's have less of a connection to the company and will "like sheep" accept this treatment. In turn AT&T gets rid of those who are getting that 3rd or 4th week of VAC. Also those getting close to the MR75 bump in Pension. Additionally AT&T gets to hire on new, young, recently certified employees at a lesser total cost.

Overall it makes me think that AT&T and other large companies are not blind to the evolution of our work force. They will look for ways to use the young employees work perspective to further their own bottom line. (ALL ABOUT MONEY!!)

If millennials as it said above are chasing positions that offer top benefits as in healthcare then I don't think they would entertain AT&T as the healthcare benefit is certainly not one of the better plans out there compared to what others offer......

Its already well proven fact that greedy big corporate fatcats bosses & CEOs do not really care about workers, with all the: benefits cuts, cheaper consultants abuse, offshoring to cheaper countries with lower wages (eg. global-wide competitions abuse), abusing unpaid interns as "co-op" jobs. Shareholders come first, while lower level workers in general are treated like disposable slaves. The CEO's gets gold parachutes and gold-plated stock bonuses, while the workers get little to night. Top rich 1% vs the bottom 99%.

This massive income inequality and will lead to public distrust in big corporations, and will be the doom and fall of developed countries society.

The pension program was completely done away with in 2015. 2014 was the last year that new hire-on's could be vested.

Do Millennial's in AT&T even get a pension? I don't think a "MR75 bump in Pension" even applies to them. So, as Millennial's are half the workforce here and growing, why should they care what happens to some Pension they don't get? No one's going to protest these layoff of people with these benefits, because only a minority will even be eligible for them.

If T wants to adjust to millennials, they will need to get away from the every day theme of whatever you do is not good enough or fast enough and don't do what we told u to do yesterday and tomorrow do what we tell you to not do today spills. Say what u want about millennials, but they won't tolerate that to the degree us vested/come too far to quit folks do.

They might complain but they understand how things are now. Now whether they deal with it is another matter. Have had conversations with some of my sons friends. A company pension in a nonevent for them. They understand that is not in the cards. They do quite a bit of job hopping and health care benefits do rank high. (At least the ones who are old enough to have fallen off their parents insurance.) A couple told me they had left jobs because of that even if it meant slightly less pay at their new position.

Funny how the Company wants up to date skilled workers yet the Management can not definitively the Employees what certifications are needed nor a direction the Company is going. The Company will give a bare bones “overview” of training then send out the freshly trained out on their own to fend for themselves yet expecting them to complete work within the said time increments. AT&T is a reactive company not a proactive Company. Chasing the “carrot” with their hindquarters not their noggin.

And those folks will complain in 5 or 10 or 30 years that they have no pension, healthcare. Life is full of choices I guess.
