NJ is bad, the bathrooms, collaboration areas & floors are disgusting. Even the air circulating in the building smells. Gotta love collaboration. NOT.
Our building is a ghost town on Friday’s.. it pisses off those of us who are forced to “Collaborate “ everyday.
You can complain, but they will have their answer soon enough. You have no idea if working from home or reporting to the office is better for productivity for the company as a whole. You just have your own opinion and anecdotes. But, I'm sure the company collects lots of metrics, and they will find out if reporting to the office increases productivity.
Urine on the floors is a daily ritual, I mean full pees from disgruntled employees. Soiled toilet paper left on the floor or on the back of toilets for all to see. Vomit on the walls in sinks for all to see it is awesome. Pack more in.
AT&T has cut building services support in multiple locations. We have a schedule posted of what we should expect as far as house keeping. That is contractual. Those people are only expected to do what the contract states.
Between the noise, the awful smells, the dirty office environment it's awful. Add a stressful commute where you fight traffic & stupid drivers & dodge an accident this is the worst idea ever. No value added & not a good way to work.
“Randall has always said, if a job can be done from home, it should be sent to Philippines and paid at Philippines wages. If a job can be done collaboratively, it should be done in Dallas.”. And Randall would be wrong, as he is with many of his Opinions/decisions! Generalizations are such BS! There are some job titles where it absolutely makes sense for people to work at home and not be stuck in an engagement zone as it makes no difference whatsoever to their productivity! And, they still do complicated and good work not just undane work that can go to the Philippines.
The distractions are unbearable in these collaboration zone sites. You can see everyone with the super low cubicle walls. Everyone is watching everyone all the time. You hear way too many conversations and other noise. It's impossible to have any private discussions unless you walk into a meeting room or outside. If you really need to concentrate on anything, forget it. There's too much continuous chit chatting going on and a lot less real work. I expect productivity to drop.
Has AT&cut the contract for building housekeeping in NJ locations? We now empty our own garbage daily as it gets emptied once a week. No one is coming daily as they previously did to pick it up and it really smells. The bathrooms are a disaster also. A colleague called as they had a major birthday cake spill on their carpet two weeks ago and has called cleaning services 3X for carpet cleaning but no one ever shows up....It is really gross...I am in the office daily but I totally understand why folks prefer working from home as collaboration/engagement or whatever you want to call it in reality is a warzone and a big hoax....
A small team of professionals with an experienced and respected leader will always outperform larger groups comprised mostly of mediocre talent.
It's fun to work at home! I get to be naked, down a six of brewskies, and watch adult fare all day. No complaints here my friend.

place and weed out those unwilling to
“Collaborate.”
Then Engagement Zone - to meet a future spouse so if a spouse gets cut the other one
might still have a job and health insurance
Finally we will have the Mobilized zone after
all the cuts and T will then say great working
remotely is and no more offices or cubes.
Saves $, decreases pollution
But that is at least 100k jobs away
I have some good news.....
There was a leadership call today and they proactively brought up collaboration zones.
The message from leadership: tough sh--, it's the new norm.
Our cleaning people swept then into the corner and they stayed there until I threatened to call the health department. The pile is gone and now so am I.
Chuckle.
Wait until someone comes into work sick with the Flu, Strep or Measles. In that sort of environment, a whole lot of folks will get exposed to it.
As far as cleanliness of the facilities are concerned, that's another area where AT&T is cutting costs. In my building, cleaning crews only show up once a month to replace paper products and clean the bathrooms. Floors never see a broom or mop. Carpet hasn't seen a vaccuum in a decade. Roaches still lie on the floor where they died years ago :|
If you aren't spending at least an hour fashioning a shank from all the leftover equipment and junk, then you are doing it wrong.
Whatever it's called, it's the dumbest idea in office management ever! Who the hell can work in that environment... Home based workers can more done, every day!
Maybe you are going to the wrong place, they are called Engagement Zones, have been called that for months. Does your collaboration zone have a sign on thats says chucky cheese or mcdonalds?
Set up not for productivity but to take an inventory of headcount.

Like being in a waiting room at the Hospital. People coming and going, distractions, loud talkers and phone conversations fill the air constantly. Then there are the dufuses who pace and drift around while on calls. Collaborative Nonsense.
It's not like that , more like working at a bus station, noisy people coming and going, reservations don't matter. Other days it's like the malls around the holidays, just chaos on where to sit, do I have all my cables, will there be a space. And right no one on my team in the building to collab with
