T's www.sec.gov 10-K reports showing number of employees/retirees. You can figure the net change in employees year-over-year. There has to be a lower wage hiring replacing higher wage earners because the numbers don't change as much as it would seem from what's happening.
Date No. Emp Retirees
01/31/19 268,000 548,000
01/31/18 252,000 524,000
01/31/17 268,000 533,000
01/31/16 281,000 322,422
01/31/15 253,000 331,000
01/31/14 243,000 310,000
01/31/13 242,000 331,741
01/31/12 256,000 335,000
I've always wanted to fit in but my eyes lack luster.
"...media heat from 40000 layoffs" At&T owns the media or as The President of Hollywood says "I own you!"
Yep, another troll post about a huge layoff with no substantiation.

AT&T cut 11,780 jobs last year, equaling about 4% of total headcount at the end of 2017 across its operations and those of Time Warner, the media giant AT&T bought in a controversial $85 billion deal.
And the jobs were cut, but some of it was via buyouts, resignations, and retirements. And the first quarter report is just about out, and a nice thing is, employee count is reported.
I'm beginning to think that many of these unsubstantiated topics are coming from the AT&T misfits, the ones who couldn't fit in at AT&T and probably don't fit in anywhere.
Globalization rocks!
T is the media. They will tell no more than is required by law.
I did in fact rec a personal notification 1/28/19. I had been on the 'safe' calls in the past, but Monday morning I came in to work, had a meeting notification on my calendar for 9:30 and was told by my 2nd line that I was surplussed. Totally caught off guard because we did not have the big calls. I'm not sure which way is better.
OP, having not been laid off a second time, as in 2016, I’m not sure I know what you mean. I received an email to expect a morning phone call and a person (no doubt reading from a script) recited the words I dreaded to hear, explained of the Q & A room I could join, along with hundreds of others, to hear our options to be phased out....the choices were 3 weeks or 60 days, along with Severance, etc.
I guess I considered this a ‘personal notification.’ Now, to be fair, I was given a three week heads up that this might be coming. I used all my networking connections, from years gone by, to make it back in....was too soon to retire and competing against Millennials, for my next job opportunity, wasn’t going to cut it.
I’m curious to know how T would do ‘Personal Notification’ differently? And not for nothing, but Layoffs like these, from any company, are not something you could keep secret.....from the Media or anyone else!
