Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Sorry

I retired in 2015 after 39 years as an outside tech.

After I retired, my DTV went from $10 a month to $130.

My only 8 meg (copper) Uverse went from $20 to 50. It resets multiple times a day.

The VOIP went from free to whatever. I never use it.

I can get from Spectrum, the same channels, at least 100M internet, Voip and a free WIFI modem for $99.

I'll be switching tomorrow.

Glad I retired.

"This folks, this is the no service that gets folks surplussed-through no fault of yours.. And to be honest, I actually think that's what they want."

That is how they treat good paying customers. Personally I don't think they know what they want or want to be.

one day it is a wireless company, next day a video company, next day a fiber company, next day a c-appy ISP, next day a c-appy cable company. mix them all up and what do you get. a big pile of sh--.

Your lucky you can even get internet from the company. There are whole swaths of geography the company has completely abandoned to the competition. The only att option where I live is 768k. Really? It’s 2019 already, 768k is useless.

For VOIP get a magicjack. $4/month. Brings an alternative to Cell phone walkie-talkie sound. I'm not having problems with MJ on a TwoWire/Pace modem.

OP again.

Getting 119M down and 11M up.

For a few less dollars.

So I called to cancel my Uverse, settled up my bill before I called. Got offshore person who was difficult to understand.

But because I paid my bill, they won't shut the service off today, but at the end of the bill cycle, 4-3.

Nor will they send me a box or a shipping label to return my NVG510 modem.

I'm to take it to a UPS store.

Won't prorate it, won't send a check. Asked for a supervisor... "They're all in a meeting."

Sure they are.

Must be a long meeting, because 2 hours later no supervisor has called me back.

So, this will hasten my departure from the cell service, DTV.

This folks, this is the no service that gets folks surplussed-through no fault of yours.. And to be honest, I actually think that's what they want.

I wish you would have retired from posting this kind of c-ap on a lay-off board.

Internet is 6M...you are correct. Even worse than 8M. Total $28.62

VOIP is $20.00

So $48.62+tax and whatever.

It is Uverse (copper), as I have a BAN number. 7-8K feet from the CO.

I retired of my own will after 39 years as an outside tech.

.... not disgruntled... just practical... ... for phone with the same bells and whistles as when employed... plus DSL... the employee price which has slowly crept up from near zero to $23.00 a month to the new retiree monthly price of $66.00... .... come on... ... think what you want... that is the reality of AT&T...

I don't even see 8 Meg uverse on the price list. 768K to 6M is $22.50 (retires are 75% of list). Next stop 12M, 18M and 24M is $37.50 (75% of list). I'm getting the $37.50, so something is out of whack with this post. And this is VDSL on copper. The next retiree price is $45 and then $52.50. I don't see $50 on the retiree price list.

Me sense disgruntled ex-employee, not retiree. Or, it's not Uverse service, although I thought regular DSL only goes to 6M

Op again.

I called AT&T to see if they would lower my bills. They told me "No"

She suggested I disconnect my service for a period of time, then call in as a new customer-not a retiree. I'd get better pricing.

So I called Spectrum...they'll be her in 2 hours...yes, 2 hours.

Less $$$, 12 times the speed.

I really don't think AT&T cares if they lose customers.

This is why the employees are getting surplussed.

To thew poster who said pay and give others a chance to retire....have you offered to get paid less or pay more for your services to do your part?

Support the big blue?!? ... it gets down to economics... .. if the product was good... competitive... sure... ... I supported the company for 40yrs... ... you do know the last 22 yrs the company had slowly taking away the employee’s ability to choose as a consumer.... employee’s have been strong armed into supporting the company’s position on a number of things... ... I’m grateful and blessed to have worked there for so long... ... but to continue to pay for a service the I have no use for... and being on a fixed income... makes no sense...

Why not support the company that gives you a pension and medical benefits? You all were lucky enough to retire from here, why not give others the chance? Going to the completion and losing subscribers puts jobs of current employees at risk. Please look at the big picture.

... recently layed off / retired (40yrs)... ... while employed my company concession cost me “X” dollars.... ....I just received my new billing as a retiree one month off payroll ... my bill TRIPPLED... ... I worked outside... ... I know AT&T’s Product... my new TRIPPLED rate is still below the regular consumer’s billing rate.... .... there are better price points for better services and faster internet speeds.... ... and with all the Smart Phone abilities out there... there is no need to hold on to any AT&T services.... I’ll cancel in the next few days....

OP again.

I worded my post poorly. The point of it here on a layoff board is this is exactly why the company lays off.

12X the internet speed for less $$.

They want us to be brand ambassadors?

Little wonder there is little work in areas.

I'm not sure it was intended, but the post does illustrate how poor our products are relative to our competitors.

We literally have no consumer products that are anywhere near best of breed. It speaks volumes to the complete ineptitude of our executive and marketing teams.

Shouldn’t you have gotten the employee discount for the services you mentioned increased in price since you retired after 39 years?

39 years is like hitting the lottery. Guess you didn’t save for retirement. Live and learn.
