Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Any ATO locations impacted?

Saw people posting about various department and locations, but I don't see anyone posting about ATO layoffs in this round. Is it possible that ATO was avoided in this wave or are people just not posting about it?

I agree about the layers of bureaucracy in ATO.....3 people currently Managing Testing for a Project I am working on top of the outsourced Vendors doing the testing and noting gets accomplished......Folks tripping all over one another.....I am an SE and I am shocked at the layers involved to manage. Two PM's...One very Technical (thankfully) and the other on is clueless..Get rid of the dead weight and keep multi-faceted PM's that are technical enough to understand what is being delivered and can address issues etc....

dkb is correct about his description of ATO & if you are in that org you'd agree. Not sure about the date of the announcements.

@7vzl - the people in ATO affected in the last round and chose to stick around 60 days go off payroll by the end of this week, 3/29. Next cuts will be announced afterwards. They don't usually do overlapping surpluses. At least not yet.

SAFe will fix it.

The nonsense from leadership and the politics associated means nothing will work.

Nothing gets done due to budget games

Heard the various projects are being looked at for duplication. IT has made it too difficult to deal with them so ATO created their own group that would actually work on things they want. Of course our Network staff doesn’t help. Come up with a simple straightforward idea and they get ahold of it. If it looks like it is decent then they try and add their pet projects to it. Original idea becomes a monster that no one understands and never gets worked or finished. In fact the only thing I want Network Staff to do for me is provide contacts.

ATO will make announcement 3/22 to those notified

ATO is more than tech Dev, which needs swept out the door, see what WM has, Tech Dev is a sad place to be, constant politics, budget cuts, and lost leadership. Controlling cost by not letting people charge to projects is self defeating, questioned on every step. Same dinosaurs roaming the halls making more bad decisions. Outsource is leaderships solution to cost

YES! Look all around you. How many employees does it really take to get one job done? And you say to yourself, “oh, but the company will not survive without me.” Keep believing that. ATO has built silos, support groups, management teams, database administrators, fall-out teams, and so many project management organizations with duplicate functions over the years, that they are tripping over each other. MANY OF YOU ARE ALL DOING THE SAME THING! To what end? What exactly is a fall-out team? I’ll tell you what a fall-out team is. It’s a fancy name to say that you don’t have to be accurate in the work that you do, when it comes to us we will fix it.

Like it or not, the truth is if you have to ask this question then you need to be worried. And you are probably filling a seat that is no longer needed. From what I have seen before I went off of the payroll, better than 25% of ATO can be let go. And you know what? ATO will not flinch! They will survive without you.
