Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How dangerous is to accept working from home in this moment?

I was an office worker but last week my manager offered me to continue doing my job working from home. Even though he stated it was absolutely my choice, from his tone I could tell that for some reason he would be more satisfied if I accepted the offer. Now I’m in a sort of a lose-lose situation, knowing that WFH’ers are first on the chopping block when layoffs are done, on the other hand I feel that me refusing this offer would piss him off and I don’t want to do that either.

All the WFH people on my team and on the sister team were on the list. We are off the payroll 3/29.

If you prefer and feel more effective working at home take it. There is no job security at T, the least you can do is work how you want to work. If you are valued they will accommodate you, otherwise in or out of the office they'll surplus you.

Do you ask him why he is giving you the "option/suggestion" ? You should had asked. IF and a BIG IF he is a good manager he will give it to you.

@slb depends on what group you are in ATO as to the WFH policy. Some groups have been told no more WFH, others have not. It's a $hitshow. I'd take any job to be able to go back to WFH than be stuck in a lousy office all day.

Hate to break it to you but you are on the chopping list already. There is a subconscious reason your manager made the offer. He/She is feeling guilty. He/She knows and is trying make it better, not on your end but on theirs.

"WFH’ers are first on the chopping block" this is not accurate. The whole collaboration zone/ badge swipe / back to the office hysteria has already started to fade. It's a red herring. Lots of people in/ out of collaboration zones/ full time office/ full time telecommuters/ part time office workers etc. surplussed. There is no official change to any telecommuting policies that were already in place (in ATO at least).

If you are in the vicinity of a collaboration zone/office, then your WFH activity does not become a negative. I would suggest though to at least go in 1-2 times a week, get a badge swipe in, and get credit for sitting around the camp fire.

I would take it doesn't matter any more. like @pop said no rhyme or reason. also if you can I would look for new manager your manager sounds like a typical ATT manager. They say something but no one knows what they really said. Saves them from legal trouble. They want you not to break the cob but different story for management.

Take it. Pocket your savings. There is no rhyme or reason why people are being cut. WFH isn't going to help or hurt you.
