CWA District 4 Update Last Night

The first update said nothing! The second one had a few more words and still we sit here saying "You got to be kidding me." The Company is laughing at the CWA whipping post. A few months ago we had our opprotunity to strike and instead elected to write to our congress, wake up CWA!!!!!! We can't walk now because we will all be replaced. Time for a change up top in District 4, enough is enough.

@jfs. Remember all of the techs that were doing premise work(Service Tech title in the SE & customer service specialist title the the MW I believe) who got sold out by the unlon when the Prem Techs were brought in to begin with. There had already been techs working from the serving terminal/ONI inwards for years. Replacing a higher wage job title with a lower wage job title should have never happened regardless of how many new members the union got out of it.

"I’ve read Art of the Deal, I can negotiate better in my own!"

This has to be the dumbest thing I've read on this board. CWA leadership is lockstep with the company leaders without a doubt but that doesn't negate the power of collective bargaining. CWA is the problem, not unions in general.

Yeah. I told the Union boss when he came to my yard that as a Trump supporter, I didn’t need a Union. I’ve read Art of the Deal, I can negotiate better in my own!

To vpp, if you are disappointed with the union, why would you vote democrat? Unions are democrats!

@ ijtt

Incorrect my friend!

First of all what contract? We are coming up on a year of working without.

The Michigan Supreme Court has already settled this. In Michigan you can leave a union at any time.

You can’t leave anytime, it has to be a written request within 10 days of the contract anniversary.

@iabt

We have a group of about 35 prem techs so far in our area in Michigan who are preparing to opt out of CWA for those reasons. If that’s what we are then how can we be fairly represented at the table.

After speaking with some other unions it is clear that finding new representation is probably not in the cards given afl cio no raiding rules. Not to mention the fact that you need 30 % of your bargaining unit to force a vote.

Our best option is to opt out and save our money.

They had to get some kind of message out before the company declares a surplus.....you know to make it seem like they are trying. I don’t know about you but I feel all warm and fuzzy.

I never saw the Prem Tech as other than a temporary title for help in rolling out Uverse. In the Legacy T contract, there is language "Any employee who has ever held a position in a Premises Technician Agreement will be treated by any receiving company that is party to this IMF agreement and that also is party to a Premises Technician Agreement ... upon termination, the former employee will pay contributions equal to 50% of the total cost of coverage for post-retirement medical and dental coverage if the former employee is not Medicare eligible and will not be eligible for medical or dental post-retirement coverage if Medicare eligible. "

There is a lot of stuff, but my impression of the title was - an existing employee shouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. A newly hired Prem Tech should have aggressively use the internal transfer system to get a different job as soon as time in title/location had completed.

I think the Uverse rollout is closer to the end than the beginning. And I think that is the same with the Prem Tech title.

Prem techs are being sold out again. They are shifting our work to other groups and we will be the ones hit by surplus.

Prems need to either opt out or find different representation because prem techs are not being represented at the table.

Well, if you can't walk now, why is it you thought you could walk before? I don't understand that part. It is quite clear that with these current negotiations, the union is bumping up against the company's plans called "2020" that involves mothballing landline telephony.

The part where the company's representatives couldn't TA on any provisions agreed upon by both parties was quite interesting, and makes me wonder what is going to happen Mar 15 in Leg T and Midwest.

Can someone translate what @jfq said in to English? If you’re referring to the lawsuit it’s going to be dismissed with prejudice.

Unions are not what they use to be. May as well opt out and pocket the extra cash or invest it.

Are your dues being deducted to pay for the fat union boss’s salary? If yes, that is all the union really cares about. Now sit down and shut up. And remember to vote Democrat at election time.
