Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How many more do they want to lay off before they are satisfied with the headcount?

Public announcements are one thing, reality is another, think we all learned that. Even with the buyout, reorgs and layoffs the leadership still doesn't look satisfied. I don’t think that layoffs will ever stop being a threat, but how much more folks does the leadership plan to lay off before they can say the headcount is more or less at the number they were expecting. Thoughts???

Anyone who is not working on anything regarding 5G will be gone within a year. Hand will see to it. Verizon will be all Wireless by this time next year. Those who didn’t opt for the VSP will regret it.

Who knows? The number I guessed at for the last two years is around 75,000 employees left if Hans gets his way. Or about half the employees Verizon had when he was hired. That would be in line with what he did at Ericsson.

And let's face it. It's not Hans -- he's the chump the board hired to do their dirty work. Some CEOs won't do it, so they have to get someone absolutely without a conscience, like Hans.

You could lay off another 10-15% across the board and it would be fine. You have so many people in network with overlapping job duties. What does SP do? What does NAE do? these guys are milking the money. Once the ticket system FAST is running full speed there will be a ton of people with nothing to do

Realistically, the headcount must go below 100,000 employees and even that seems high.

To answer this question, simply look at the amount of debt Verizon still has. They must continue to keep cutting costs and expenses in order to pay down the debt in a significant way to keep their bond rating from going to junk status, while at the same time finding a way to fund the 5G deployment which will cost quite a bit. What is $10 Billion in savings when you have 120 Billion in debt? Not enough !!! Therefore, the layoffs must and will continue, there is no way around it. They will also try to sell anything they can like VES, Media, HuffPost. They will also do other things like moving the BR center to Texas for a more favorable state taxation.

IMO, the consumer facing part is going to become more automated. It makes sense for them to drive customers to the web. When they figure out how to have the online agents/boots give accurate info, the push will be on. It's no secret the cost of doing biz online is way less than a face to face meeting at a retail store.
