Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs in acquired parts of the company?

Was wondering, in relations to the latest AT&T layoffs, is there a possibility that we will be seeing something similar in Warner Media? Hope I’wrong but it feels logical that a detailed restructure could hit everything related to the media business?

TimeWarner duplicate roles (finance, HR, corporate marketing, etc - several hundred people I think) were removed shortly after the merger closed in June/July, so that has mostly been done at this point. Some streaming services (FilmStruck, Super Deluxe, etc) that didn't make sense after they announced the new Direct-To-Consumer offering were shuttered and some employees were affected (maybe another 100-200). There is some consolidation work to combine WarnerMedia companies that is occurring, but hasn't affected headcount up to this point. TimeWarner treated Warner Bros, Turner, and HBO as three independent entities. AT&T is treating them more as one, which will likely lead to some additional reductions. For perspective, TimeWarner had under 30,000 employees - less than 5% of AT&T's workforce.

The old saying goes, “two into one don’t go” so figure any redundancy between AT&T & TW will be whittled down to fit. It’s probably been in the planning stage for a good while, unless it has begun already.

I believe it will be voluntary one only till court decision does not come and once cleared and T is ready to merge operations with TW. They will start the layoffs and remove redundancies.

They are asking people if they want early retirement at HBO. First it will be voluntary and then they will move to involuntary. Count on it.

Count on it. It's the AT&T modus operandi: buy it for an inflated price, make changes that destroy what made it something they wanted to buy, when it doesn't pay off enough to justify the cost of acquisition start cutting until it is a shadow of its former self. Wasn't that the plan with DTV? Why should RS change his stripes? He has $30M a year in salary to prove how much smarter he is than anyone else. He suffers from the same syndrome as a lot of executives: he exploits the executive compensation game to get a huge salary and then he mistakes the huge salary for proof he knows what he is doing. He's just another Armstrong.

The candy Man, skankey legs and the 2 John's will not disappoint. They are just warming up on layoffs.

Is the Pope Catholic? While AT&T is not very good at increasing earnings, allocating capital effectively, or intelligently reducing costs and improving business performance, they are very good at mass layoffs and doing senseless reorgs on a regular basis. About the only thing you can count on is that the same policies that have run other business units into the ground will continue at TW.

Yes. They will fire everyone and replace them with old AT&T management and their family members.

You can be certain that there will be a cleaning out of corporate finance, marketing, and HR. Those duplicate services. Maybe something in creation if they decide to join the Directv creation teams with Warner Media. You can rest assured that Stanky will re-org it into the AT&T corp structure, which may not make one bit of sense.
