Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It’s hard to think these will be the only layoffs this year

I’m positive that another wave of layoffs is gonna hit soon, and that’s the main reason why they haven’t announced what purpose did the layoffs have and that’s why no official plans of restructuring have been announced on the company level. When could that next wave hit us? I’m thinking around the quarterly report. What’s the final headcount of that they want to lay off this year?

Do a search for the WARN report explained below like "Georgia WARN Report" or "California WARN Report" or whatever your state is (not all do this). Aside from word of motuh, it's the best advance notice you can get by monitoring it throughout the year.

"The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act) is a federal labor legislation to protect employees, their families, and communities from unexpected lay offs and employment loss. WARN Act requires employers with 100 or more employees to provide 60 calendar-day advance notification of plant closings and mass layoffs. The rules covering WARN Act vary in the different states of the United States. The related law of each state is discussed under the following state links.

Some states including California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Wisconsin have specific legislation mirroring the WARN Act."

And the 5k backfill will not be here in the States. I know the company doesnt owe me more than a paycheck for every day i work but the overseas businesses don't use even use AT&T services. The brand loyalty door swings both ways.

There will be 10 to 20k jobs eliminated this year, with about 5k being backfilled.

Surplus events are a regular occurrence at T and have been for many years. They are very well orchestrated and somehow fly below the radar of the media. They will continue into the unforseeable future. Unless you are in the C-suite I would be very concerned.

If anyone has been listening to the big boy briefings it has been stated that as some projects get completed the plans are to use that budget money to pay down debt. Who in their right mind believes that if they meet the 2nd quarter target on the fiber build there will not be negative consequences for that organization? Probably be negative consequences if they don’t meet it as that money has already been promised to the Street. They will go to the plan B contingency on cutting.

Expect it to be before every Quarterly Report - If last year is an example, a rotation will be on for different groups each quarter or whatever is needed for earnings numbers.

Randall has more to cut to meet the 2020 goal

I work in a group in which some labor saving technologies were introduced. There were some issues with it initially so it was put on the back burner. They came through and cut positions anyway. It was a cluster. They are now serious about working through those issues. Middle management is now wanting weekly updates on progress.

They’ll do what it takes to keep the net earning figures where they need them to be.
