Have been worked for T for 20 years, recently my manager ask me to report work status daily, is that way that they will use to layoff?

Wake up. the company has a program called EMP to manage the time on virtually every job or project. They are looking for any way to dump a job in all areas. The "collaboration Zones " now used also can show who to dump. Look around and get your head out of the sand and you will see downsizing and complete closing of offices and outsourcing any work that can be down remotely out of the country.

It's all about cost to operate. The fools at the top purchased a TV company and quickly found it was a mistake and are also looking to close that mess.

If I were a team manager I'd never want all that useless information. But it will show the diversity of work and training and meetings. They must be analyzing your job to see if you keep it or they give it away.

Yes. So what you do is micro list every step you take, every move you make, and every thought you think. Then handed to them. When they ask you is that all? (and they will) Tell them to shut if up their *.

Good luck though. My suggestion, prepare now and look somewhere else. Been though this already with them. Don't let them control your situation. Be the one in control.

Daily "stand up" calls used to be called micromanagement. It is all the rage these days. In my opinion that is the reason more than a basis for a layoff.

Hundred year old companies don't create new things.

One year old companies do.

T will never be Netflix.

Don't forget that the golden age of the traditional Telephone company was in the 1940s when it first became a critical domestic part of the "War Effort". For the next 30 years, the style of management and organization was based on military principles adopted during those war years. It was considered efficient and supportive to follow the that military model with its chains of commands, multilayered management, micro-documentation of every task.

Keeping that same mindset, now add technology with the ability to monitor every moment and movement of the day and you end up with Managers of the Microscope, so afraid of missing some nuance that they instead eyeball every molecule of their universe looking for something you did wrong.

None ever look up and out and see the big picture. Too many forests of people looking at leaves.

None see the sky above or beyond.

the only times I remember them doing to me was when they were getting ready to outsource the positions and they wanted to get a handle on the day in day out tasks.

plus your manager has no clue what they are managing.

they could be evaluating your job to see who else can do the same work when you are gone

In my 40+ years as part of this sh-- show, one thing I've learned is a boss who watches the clock and does desk checks does so because they know little about the actual work that's being done, and so have nothing else as a manager to do. Also, most times they got to where they are by being "diverse" or politically well connected. Unfortunately that's the norm rather than the exception in the alternative universe of AT&T.

How can this company's managers look them self in the mirror? You would have to be completely empty of any humanity to be a manager for this company.
