Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Severance?

Looking for advice. I’m in a roll where the area that I report to is being dissolved. There was mention that I might be able to continue my current job and report to another market/city but as of yesterday that sound in doubt.

The info I have is very vague and the Director has been less than forthcoming with info only that we need to be looking for other jobs. When asked if this is a severance type situation if employees don’t find other jobs he said something to the effect of maybe/sounds like it could be.

My questions would be how do I go about getting info and is AT&T under any obligation to pay severance? They are not eliminating these jobs as a whole, just in a few markets here and there.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve read the severance policy, but here’s the thing...they can change the policy anytime they want. If money gets tight, they can easily change the policy to reduce the payout from 6 months to 3 months, or eliminate it completely.

ALL corporations continuing to cut wages and benefits, no pension and increased medical co-payments, latest is Disney, 10,000 layoffs, just fired average $25 Hourly, and hiring newbies at a whooping $10 hourly at the eCommerce technical support nation wide..................Americans love Disney, LOL

Health care?

Living wages?

Pension?

Those things are earned when you work. We the working people need to fight for exactly the same benefits as that of the CEO and Congress.

"They" want you to believe you don't deserve these things just because you have a job. We have fallen for their mind tricks and we need to stand up and fight back.

The location is being closed? Then you either work from home or somewhere else within 50 miles. If you haven’t been notified formally via email and HR calls you are not surplus. I suspect you are just coincidently in an area closing a building location.

I am surplus now. You will get a notification when it happens. There is no job following.

My severance is 6 month pay

Hey until you get the email officially telling you, you won't be qualified.

There are company-wide severance policies (the updated in 2015) that spell out when severance is paid (involuntary discharge without cause), and how much is paid. Unless you are covered by employment contract (senior-level executive) or bargained agreement, the company can offer more, but cannot offer less unless they change the published policy.

Go to HR OneStop to read the policies.
