Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

They re going to have to vet the new millennial worker very thoroughly

Most companies with longevity like AT&T traditionaly need to hire new employees , a new generation every 10 or 20 years. 10 years ago they negotiated a new lower wage scale to install internet and tv , These outside employees (prem techs) are younger and some have good work ethic but the rest do not , to make matters worse they were not vetted or trained properly and consequently most have quit or been fired. . If T is going to replace the current workforce they might consider accommodating these new millennials with shorter work weeks and later start times , maybe throw in some gluten free pizza parties and cheese cake. Good luck with that, the need for long hours of hard and technical work is still there now more than ever. They re going to have to vet the new millennial worker very thoroughly.

Well said. On pint post from @UPfVgst-2Hbva

@2var, hi...Boomer here. As you rise up thru the "age" ranks you will begin to find a noticeable ceiling. You could call it a silent age discrimination ceiling (a tough one to crack) and employers will never say it, by law they can’t, but one look tells them to move past you. Your work history gives them that age gauge.

No matter how great that Resume looks, do you choose the 45 yr. or 55 yr. old. Managers want longevity to the job....and if a 30 something arrives on the scene, forget it, the first two are history.

The cold reality is that the Millennials are the competition to us getting that job you speak of, in any field. But you will find that out on your own.

The 20% of effort you recite comes from angered people...T has bred an environment like that. Those that were surplussed will give minimum effort, those who remain are also angry for various reasons, but in reality only spout the percentage and work the job, always looking over their shoulder.

LYoung people are annoying. Old people are annoying. People are annoying. Cheese Cake is great.

Spare the anger, save the energy. We're better off pointing up than at each other.

Millenial here. A lot of you admit that you only give 20% at work. Maybe that's why you are being laid off? I never see an unemployed millenial. They just grind and find another position. How abut doing what we do instead and find another job with more money?

Randy has no intention of hiring millennials when he can hire slaves in Asia for less.

Besides, millennials may be lazy but they're not stupid enough to want to work here.

Before I was laid off last September, it has been over 10 years that I recall a new hire. I was in engineering and the only new hires were the few on fast track.

My job is going to the Phillapeans and India. The folks that did not get hit yet are expected to train them and then they will be laid off as well. Everyone in my group was over 40. There are very few young folks outside of call center, phone store and sales groups.

We aren’t being replaced by a younger workforce, our jobs are being outsourced to other countries like India and Czech Republic.

Randy loves it when the workers are divided and snipe at each other, it lets him off the hook.

And what exactly is the problem with cheese cake?

This board is too damn divisive.

We have different generations smacking each other down, different races (ALTHOUGH the complaints about CHEAP FOREIGN LABOR are valid)

Can’t we all just help each other out? Oh and if we could brainstorm ways to screw T over that would be good too...

What is this bullsh*t? If I said this about any other age group or race, religion, or gender I would rightfully be flayed. Boomers and Gen X are exactly as flawed as any other generation.
