Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

They didn't do the company a favour with the manner they performed layoffs in

It’s bad enough that people were forced to these collaborations zones, but also, as it was proven that that move was an introduction to layoffs it also closed a lot of doors for the company in the future. Remote workers are usually hired because of their special skills or high performance. Now who will want to work at AT&T from a location that the company doesn’t have a physical presence in, knowing what might happen?

Badge swipes and VPN counts may come into play when reviews and rankings/bonus dollars are determined. Just say'n. T demands a lot from employees. But the company has moved from being managed at the tactical level (director or lower) to being micromanaged by leadership who should stick with strategy. Directors have become impotent and just agree. Longtime ago they could push back.

I haven’t heard of anyone getting an email on reporting to office. What org are you referring to?

Worried folks are getting emails telling them to report to an office in the satellite location 4 days a week. Not sure if reporting there will save you compared to reporting to a hub. They are hearing badge swipes and VPN usage reports are being used but does that mean they will be fired without severance if they continue to work from home? Some are trying to use an exception process to save themselves. The folks who do show up in a shared work space find overcrowding and no place to work or hear themselves think. Starting to think the people retiring with a severance package are the the lucky ones.

I have been monitoring the board for several weeks. Other than the email that Jeff sent where he said

“Therefore, our collaboration zones and hub cities become even more integral”

I have not seen much written where people were forced back to the office. As an FOW, going back to October when noise about in office presence started up until just a couple of weeks ago my manager cannot tell me how many days I should report to the office or if I must. The only guidance given was to not appear at the top of the VPN report.

As can be seen by some surplus things documented on this site, location in many cases did not seem to be an issue, as folks that one would have expected to be let go were not.

Rightfully so, everyone panicked as a result of Jeff’s email and rumor, and headed to the office.

Jeff, who stated in his first town hall with ATO he was transparent and ...(you know, the same BS these people speak). I want to call him out on this comment he made in the infamous email

“During this time of transition, we will keep you informed as developments occur”

Jeff, a lot has occurred since you sent that email, we have heard nothing. It is one thing to make a statement, but to put something like this in writing and not follow up with anything after so much has happened. Why are you hiding from us and being so silent? What happen to that transparency thing you spoke about in your first town hall.

Jeff, you have “lost the locker room” and frankly can no longer be trusted.

I hope you do not waste time in you town hall speaking about 4Q results and all the spin you will apply to that. All that information is publicly available and we know had bad things are. Use the town hall time to speak about what happened on1/28 and exactly what the plans are going forward. Take the tough questions that will be submitted and answer them.

I commuted 50 miles 1 way in the northeast for 16 yrs once I left my MSC to move up. After the final AT&T merger and re-org in 2007,, I was in a national team, but I was the only one in my team at the building I was commuting too. In 2013 I was granted full-time telecommuter status. However, my location was considered a benefit to the company as I lived within 2 hr driving distance of a LOT of the equipment my team supports, in major markets. As needed, occasionally, I would go to various sites to assist with issues or projects. The equipment is still there. I will no longer be.
