Glad I escaped. Customers fleeing after outages twice in one week. Not good and not acceptable. Technology was looking ok from the front end but POS patchwork quilt tech behind the scenes is visible to customers now Get what you pay for Wells! LOL!!!

Employees who can’t find anything else - and longer term employees who are just marking time waiting for their severance packages - which pretty much describes my whole group. The feeling is that severance and unemployment will buy people enough time to look for and find a good fit, rather than just grab the first thing to come along.
Meanwhile, do we care about our jobs with the company that put us in this position? You guess.
I agree. We, the lower half, get 1% raises while does not cover rise in insurance, which means we make LESS every year......but "the top" gets RIDICULOUS raises and bonuses, and sends USA positions to ANOTHER COUNTRY............you get what you pay for Wells Fargo. The employees who actually DO THE WORK are fed up and simply don't care and loyalty has faded fast. Take care of the ones who take care of you Tim Sloan. Your employees don't give 100% anymore because we feel Used and not valued. Yes, I know, we can leave, we choose to work here.......but is that what you want? Employees who can't find anything else.......hmmm.........what would that look like? Maybe you are getting your first glimpse......
A post asks if it's possible that the constant threat of layoffs could have something to do with the outage.
Yes, yes it could. Things have not been the same for the last year plus.
Teams being let go without a coherent plan to replace them is one problem, and since Wells is in so much trouble, there seems to be a management mandate to "just do something!".
The people running IT are not making good decisions.
I work at Wells, but we moved all our accounts to a local credit union after the bank bailouts. Why anyone is still banking at Wells, or any big bank, is a mystery.
All critical apps are across a minimum of 3 DC's with auto fail over. This is something bigger, possibly intentional.
Both operations and IT should be held accountable for not having a working Business Continuity plan. Even small companies have that in place.
Could the fact that employees are functioning in an environment where layoffs are constantly hanging over their heads have anything to do with it? Could they possibly be expending more energy exploring opportunities than tending to their day to day work? Could they possibly just not care?
It will be interesting to see who takes the fall for this. Some low-level scapegoat, no doubt.
I completely agree with the previous poster (IT Guy).
If I managed my branch the way some of our executives managed their portion of the business, I wouldn’t have a job. Period.
I'm IT at Wells. I've been IT for decades. I am not part of the team that manages the datacenters here, to be clear, but in past lives I have designed BCP and failover for NASDAQ and DOW companies. I don't want to go into my current role here on the internet.
There is no excuse for the outage. Automatic failover for apps and data is a well documented practice and has been for a long, long time.
Failover is built into all designs and into all OS's and databases.
It's always possible something was overlooked somewhere and the explanation is innocent, but based on experience, it's usually human error.
Meaning management didn't commit resources or money, or someone was sleeping at the wheel.
Based on what I know about this issue, it is not an innocent mistake. Someone in management should be held accountable.
And I mean C-level management. This bank needs to start being accountable.
Right.......not possible for a billion dollar company to have a back up......okay........
I can tell only one person in IT has commented here the rest have no idea what is possible.
For customer facing applications, like ATMs, online banking, etc. Wells Fargo should have a 2nd mirror image data center, at another far away location, to flip over to immediately in case of an emergency situation like the one that occurred today. Not to keep them located too close to each other in the event of a natural disaster like an earthquake, or some other type of disaster local to a particular area.

" takes time to get them up and running".........WTF????? OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE NOT IN NEED OF CASH EVER. You are probably drinking the Wells Fargo koolaid /aka management who is so out of touch with normal people. My lord....we are sinking fast. So sad.
What happened to the BCP/business continuance plan? Are you kidding me? Nothing in place for people to access their money 24/7??? Feds need to come take over before these big high ups take us down!
Read the new on what happened. There are back up data centers but it does take time to get them up and running.
Good another fine from OCC for business continuity.
So sad. Maybe the new chief technology guy can wave his magic wand and fix things
So ridiculous! Not only can the customers not access their money, but the business cannot process/retrieve data. How can WF not have a backup Data Center? Maybe it was just too costly....? Well, as a result, WF's name gets bashed once again! You totally get what you pay for (or not in this case). LOL.....
You're so right God please put them under into the soil.
