Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I fear the worst is yet to come for DirecTV

Afraid to say that in my head everything points to a mayor wave of layoofs happenin at DTV. It’s no secret that the leadership is not happy with the way it operates. Mass loss of subscribers isn't exactly helping either. Think that a biog reorg is coming and that DTV will be reduced a great deal. Maybe it won't suffer the same faith as Oath, but believe me, it’s gonna be close to that.

Slow and lazy?.......in house Dtv techs on average put in double the amount jobs closed per month that’s required of them (32) and do this within the same amount of hours worked compared to the ip techs. They still dig their own poles and still dig their own trenchs where as ip techs b--ch and call in bury crews for anything over 15ft. The average truck roll count for a wiretech who puts in Dtv on a pole is 4/5 by the time everything is accounted for. Whereas Dtv techs take 1 on 99% of pole mounts. You forced the techs to migrate to wfe and that broken system and also restricted access for management to order from upfront. Still to this day we don’t have access!!! Dtv as a whole is dying because customers are tired of talking to someone overseas that consistently mess up work orders or try to upsell some horseshit pp plan.....no one in this company is safe....it’s all who s---s off their manager the best👍🏻 Hopefully we’ll ond day be able to order decent equipment instead of garbage....

DTV was doing well keeping it's head above water whole other MSOs were struggling. The rot within AT&T does not come from the DTV elements of the business it comes from AT&T leadership not knowing how to meet customer demands and actively becoming aggressive against the customer base. Customers won't put up with that sh-- for very long.

I don't think blaming DTV employees or AT&T employees is really helpful here. We all are on the same boat now - these layoffs impact everyone (DTV and AT&T employees). The point everyone is making is that the leadership team at AT&T made huge mistakes with prior mergers and acquisitions. I wish there was a way to keep them accountable. The blunder with T-Mobile acquisition (paying T-mobile over $4B for nothing) helped T-Mobile to use that money against AT&T and beat AT&T. I remember Mr. Stephenson's comment at that time: $4B for a company our size is nothing!!!! Really Genius!!!! AT&T really needs new leadership team.

So we former DTV Techs are slow, fat and lazy and you regret buying us? So then, what explains your wonderful company not shipping us equipment for 5 weeks during the busy Holiday season? What explains your in-house activation system called WFE that works maybe 50% of the time? What explains moving our entire support system to Whoville where you call 3 times before you get someone who even knows what DTV Is? What explains the constant shifting of goals and standards so that few, if any, can actually be met? We on the DTV side feel that we are being sabotaged by our own company. If that doesn't de-motivate you, nothing will.

My dear friend at DTV: yes, you were doing well several years ago, but DBS is a dying technology my friend - MSOs are dealing with the same challenge. The way people consume video has been changing and will change. I agree that AT&T made a huge mistake by acquiring DTV paying too much - by some estimates, DTV is not worth even $20B today and they paid close to $70B!!!!! for a declining technology. DTV is now sinking AT&T ... look at the numbers my friend. Time to wake up.... AT&T needs new management and Mr. Stankey should pack his bags and go along with the CEO and other geniuses who ruined AT&T.

No need for the people who do the work in this company to be biting each other on the back. The source of the business problems is the bad decisions made in the C-level bubble.

Randy's poor management creates a work hell for all of us and he continues to make $78,000 every single day of the year, until of course he gets his golden parachute to leave the company he is destroying.

Now we have AT&T employees blaming DTV for their lot in life. We at DTV were doing fine before having to become part of your bunk company, Uverse is a pile of junk with maybe 2 subscribers while DTV was master of satellite broadcast and now we're being brought down to your level. And believe me after working (more like putting up with) your clueless staff and management it is amazing how this fly-by-night outfit is still above ground.

The mass exodus of DTV subscribers in the 4Q should be an indication of where this dinosaur technology is headed. But where are all these subscribers headed? Definitely not DTV Now either as that service lost a significant amount of subscribers as well. This is what happens when you have leadership that have no clue on how to run a business other than into the ground. Cord cutting has been around for several years yet Randy decided to pursue satellite TV (a technology popular in the 80’s). And now cord cutting has accelerated tenfold as subscribers are fleeing to lower cost options or even free OTA channels. And wireless is no better. T-Mo added 7M subscribers in 2018 (how many of those were from AT&T?). It’s just gonna get worse at T with Randy and the Johns at the helm.

My group ended up with a lot of former dtv leadership. All I can say is they are absolutely the worst bosses I’ve ever seen. Absolutely terrible. Did I mention they are terrible? Ok just wanted to make sure. Idk about dtv layoffs, sorry I can’t help. I can imagine given the migration of customer from the dtv systems to att, yes I can see layoffs coming. Word on the street in digital is that they planned to shut down dtv.com at some point.

It was exceptionally stupid to buy DTV when consumer cord cutting is on the hockey stick upswing. I'm guessing DTV ownership was falling all over themselves fighting to sign the sale documents as soon as they could get their hands on the pen. I can still hear them laughing. All the way to the bank. Golden parachutes for everyone!

T mgmt bought a dying company and paid far too much for it. Now, T employees are paying the price.

I work directly with DTV support. Most of them are slow and lazy. They have plenty of fat to trim.
