Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Disability

Has anyone been able to stall getting laid off by being on long term disability? Wondering if anyone has successfully used this tactic?

@3kuw, I will presume 3/29/19 is you’re final day. If so my best idea, and there may be many more, is to call into HR and have a long talk about ways to “bridge” those four month. If the person doesn’t seem on steady ground about the facts then ask them to get a manager on with you....you need all your options and they have to be accurate. I suggest you record that conversation!

When I was cut (October ‘16) we had Live phone in sessions, over multiple weeks. Attendance was limited to ~500 call-ins. Two persons hosted, talked for 30-45 minutes explaining the procedures for those leaving early and those going the distance. Many callers lined up to ask questions but the hosts were answering many of them as they gave their initial talk and many callers would drop off as their concerns were answered....full time ran about 90 minutes max, this would be an option and these live sessions are recorded for you to go back to....suggest you attend at least two as some new questions may come up.

Good luck

From the 3/29/2019 date, I will be 4 months short of rule of 75. If I can stay on payroll until 7/29/2019 my pension will literally double in value. So to be more specific, would going out on short term disability keep me on the payroll until I return?

@1ouh any tips you can share for getting disability approved? I’ve heard Sedgewixk is a nightmare and AT&T is one of the worst companies to try and get disability.

I fell down a flight of stairs in the San Diego office last Monday from passing out in the stairwell after getting my surplus notice from my boss. I broke 3 fingers and my left arm in 2 places and needed 11 stitches in the top of my head. Doc said I also must have twisted oddly as I managed to royally f--- up my back.. look up something called spondylolitic spondylolisthis. I've been in the hospital for the past week and told it'll be months if not years before I fully recover. I have received nothing from HR that says this will change my date to be off payout.

I have been on disability from ATT for a few years. The business office I was in completely closed. I still get my disability.

If your SSDI gets backdated any LTD you received will have to be repaid to the date of Onset of Disabilty as determined by SSDI as LTD is offset by any other income.

Not STD.

Be aware of that.

LTD disability requires 6 month updates to Segewick from your DR. Even if you'll never get better.

They will harass you, ask for stuff they got last week again. Try to get you to get aggressive or disrespectful. If you protest, they will deny beni's as they'll deem you uncooperative.

you really need to document, record and watch it.

I told them I'd prefer they e mail me (so I could have a hard copy), yet they still call my cell.

It may prolong the inevitable, but it will not halt it.

And disability isn't that easy, they want to talk to your doctor every couple weeks to keep certified. And once you go on long term disability, you are expected to sign up for SSDI with social security and get off disability pay, then the day you return you will receive your surplus notice.

@mpx do you think the c level has completed and more importantly adhere to COBC? I doubt it! How about you sit down and shut up!

You have to ve on it while you are laid off. Does not mean anything except your lay off paperwork will be your welcome gift.

For those that are on disability, it's been stated the notice will be delivered when they come back to work. If you go on one now, I suspect the process will be the same, so while technically the answer is probably "yes", the real question is "what's the point?"
