Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Verizon Severance Pay.

At Verizon, 10, 000 workers took the voluntary leave package. They were not laid off(at least not forced),, some people got 60 months of salary, I know it all depends on how many year you have been with the company but still even if you got 12 months that is way better than the 6 months that ATT offers. Hopefull those affected at ATT can get a job right away. I know people that have 2 or 3 nanobullshit degrees and still got canned. Verizon will always be better than AT but for those who got butt !@#$!@#$!! enjoy the superbowl, you are still alive and hopefully healthy.

Yeah I have friends who have verizon wireless service and their coverage is way better than mine. I will probably be leaving att wireless and their c-appy reception/service.

@1pmn Those are valid points re: landing a job at Vz. I am not so naïve as a manager here for 25 tears to assume I could walk in there demanding my current salary and 5 weeks vacation. Indeed, the large effort they just went through was to rid themselves of managers exactly like me. That said, I have kind of resigned myself to the fact that no matter where I land (and I need to land somewhere as I am too young to "retire") I will be facing that same situation (less $$ and certainly less PTO). And I'm OK with that.

@1vvz "The severance was offered on the first wave of management cuts and I actually know so.e who took it knowi g ut would not be offerd again. Dream on little dreamer, it's not happening agsin" First, stop typing when you're drunk it makes it difficult to understand you. Second, severance is not "offered". It is a standard policy. Educate yourself.

@1vvz I have been here 25 years. What does that have to do with anything? You are continually stating that the severance plans have been terminated in various posts. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The severance plans are official corporate policies. They are available for anyone to read. Could they be changed or terminated entirely? Possibly... but not likely (especially on bargained for side). Management severance was last edited (reduced) in 2015. It has remained unchanged since then. I am not dreaming, I am simply aware of the facts. You would rather spread fear and misinformation. Grow up and learn how to form a complete sentence, you mouth breathing ninny.

@1vnu Vz may be hiring like crazy, but you'll take a big salary cut and get 2 weeks vacation to start. Not very enticing for a tenured T employee is it? The only good thing is their medical benefits. If you're already over 50, it stinks to start at the bottom of the pack again. Plus you'd be walking into all the chaos left behind by the departing 10,000 Vz employees. Be careful what you wish for. I think for a majority of the departing employees, although that 60 weeks is great, they are faced with enormous medical costs going forward if they can't land a equivalent job. Having been with Vz for so long, many were not intimately aware of just what those costs are, until now.

T don’t have money to pay for severance and it’s hard for them to pay for 6 month of severance at One go. Won’t be surprised if the stop paying 6 month severance also going forward.

Xpqcsqt-zff - Of course they aren’t considering the ‘soft’ or non-quantifiable cost of what they’re doing - Randy went to college to be an accountant and Donovan to be an engineer. Nothing wrong with either of those professions, but I’m pretty sure neither has much capacity to see beyond the numbers. They seem to view the AT&T workforce as 212,000 interchangeable widgets that are a drag on profitability.

I have been a T employee for 25 years, so I can't really speak with any authority to the differences between being an employee of T and Vz from that perspective. What I can say, is that if T would offer me 60 weeks--- I would head for zee hills in a NY minute. Randall please consider the severance sweetener. Then, I'll go work for Vz (they're hiring like crazy).

@aaz Why do you keep saying that? "The days of severance pay is over people! It is not going to happen, everybody can dream about it but it is done!" I know you're the same dummy that keeps saying that in many posts, but the severance plans are still in place. Debate me. I am not defending T and I am still employed here, but dimwitited people like you spouting nonsensical nonsense don't help things.

The Verizon buyout was capped at 60 WEEKS, not 60 MONTHS. Else everyone would be gone! And yes, it was voluntary for most, although people were dropped subtle hints that their jobs would be surplussed eventually. There was a group of 2500 ,however, that was SOLD to InfoSys. For these people, it was NOT voluntary. It was either go to Infy or be terminated. They were given the enhanced severance if they declined Infy. As far as pensions, for non-craft, they s--- because they were frozen in the early 2000s. If you didn't take advantage of the 401k after that (which is good), shame on you. Bottom line, Vz is no better than AT&T for LONG TERM employees. I don't think there is a company out there that is. Sorry you guys are going through it too.

ATT leadership clearly wasn't thinking about the soft costs of releasing people this way. A lot of older employees were impacted with this round of layoffs due to geography. These are people who would have jumped at an offer like Verizon put out there. Instead of leaving as proud supportive retirees, ATT has created a group of retirees who want to see ATT fail.
