Let's see: 10,000 AT&T employees layed off @ $200,000 annual salary/cost per person = 2 billion dollars. Current debt is 185 billion - 2 billion = 183 billion in debt.

Also add in the reduction in the number of work computers, mobile devices, licensing for every instance of proprietary software on these devices, storage regardless of device or network, closing of office space and elimination of utility/property tax expense, vaca pay, and... (fill in the blank)
Hey LA, I’m in Chicago. We need to move wherever that person is. Must be a special collaboration zone.
Wow, then im not paid as much as my peers. Im a level 2 in LA and make just over 105k
Someone below stated no one is making $200K. Most of the level 1 and 2 managers are making $120k-150k and get another 12% in bonus. Level 3s are in the $170k-240k and receive an 18% bonus and stock equity. Even the level 1s and 2s have a fully loaded cost of $200k or more when you include the costs of social security, insurance, training, bonuses, equipment, etc... level 3's are closer to $300k fully loaded.
I think 500 layoffs is entirely too low and am not sure why AT specifically https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/732717/000073271719000006/ex99_3.htm and search for "Employee separation costs" roughly half way down.

IT uses a loaded rate of $87/hr for employees. That is very close to the $200k figure posted earlier.
Only thing about a AT&T/Verizon comparison is that Verizon sold off most of their operations west of the Mississippi other than wireless. They have been very aggressive in getting out of a lot of the old businesses. Frontier has crashed trying to assimilate that business. Massive system problems on top of customers moving to new technologies caused a huge loss of business.
When I was at AT&T the "Loaded Rate" for a 1st level engineer was $132 per hour. They said that was the average cost of our salary, medical, pension, office space and use of a car from the motor pool. So if this is accurate then the annual cost is over $200,000.
There was at least 10k surplused 1/28.
Going to the SEC's Edgar, I see that AT&T at the end of the 3rd quarter 2018 reported 269,280 employees. Looking at the recently filed 4th quarter 2018, total employees is 268,220.
So, when I see a post about 10,000 layoffs, it doesn't reflect reality. I don't think this latest Jan 28th thing amounted to 500 people. I saw 10 here, or 20 there.
Given AT&T's debt, unfortunately, they need to turn 10,000 layoffs into reality. Verizon made an offer recently, and they have maybe 150,000 people. AT&T has a bloated payroll. They have to get on the stick.
How much would the company save if they eliminated the top 4 levels of upper management? I wish someone could do the math on that one
No cafeteria in my building but they could put coin machines on the bathrooms or charge for parking. I already pay for my own office supplies so no opportunity to gouge us there. Maybe they could do a 50/50 raffle every day or sell donuts at the front door in the morning. Maybe this is what they want us to collaborate about.
Or more like this Math
100,000 AT&T employees layed off @ $200,000 annual salary/cost per person = 20 billion dollars. Current debt is 185 billion - 20 billion * 9.25 y= 0 billion in debt.
If you add in benefits social security and indirect costs $200k is pretty close. Reducing office space with reduced staff adds up more than would think.
Maybe they can save money by raising breakfast prices in HQ cafeteria. I would pay double for the pork sausage patties
Total debt is 183B not 250B. Saving 1.5B-2B a year will save around 10B in 5 years.
Incorrect, T's 250B in combined liabilities, not counting pensions minus 7B GETTING rid of 100k emplyees making 70K a year, is more like lunch money for Randy boy and cronies, so that would be 243B after cutting 100K employees. I SAY they need to figure something fast
Salary + benefits but still many did not fall into this category.
No one is making 200k
