No doubt that the company plans to restructure and this has just been the beginning and If you ask me there will be more layoffs coming in some form and in some degree this year. The sad thing is that we needed layoffs now when the company has good cash flow and is generating more than enough revenue. Imagine what extent of new layoffs could await us when the company debt matures and we haven't yet started to pick up real revenue from 5G. I don’t even want to think about the situation if they get it wrong with the streaming service. Thin we need to brace ourselves.

AT&T is on track to meet the goal set some years ago, 2012, or 2013 , 1/3 workforce gone by 2020. They greatest number will be in the last year as they fine tune the needs for people.
Some of these new kids are very sharp. They don’t have 20 years of understanding or building processes but the types that the Googles are hiring. The reality is they really don’t need to since a lot of that work is going away.
My group had 6 out of 16 folks taken out this month including me. I can see more cuts coming in 2Q and 3Q. I hope everyone is not naive and thinks they are invincible! Get your resume done now and start doing job searches!
ATT is a one-trick pony - Layoff the workforce and reduce size until 1+1=3. They are not even close to making it to 3. They will keep laying off workforce until they realize they cut way too much muscle. They are depending on the re-shaping of the workforce with college-grad type peeps to take them to the 3 number. Less salary to pay to get the same work done (at least that is what they think). They are also restructuring to off-shore workers as much as they can get away with. Again another reduction in Salaries to pay. Seems that they are concentrating on the reduction of labor costs to offset the HUGE expenses that they have undertaken.
I view this as an acceleration of the previous layoffs due to worsening corporate financial results.
The Layoffs started a long time ago. The latest round is just one of many that have already occurred and will be one of many to come in the near future.
