Drawing unemployment in Texas if pension eligible

Does anyone have experience in attempting to collect unemployment when they are pension eligible? Texas employment commission said pension eligibility may affect approval or the amount you receive.

In Texas, severance pay received as a result of "collective bargaining agreement" is not considered income. However, receiving pension pay is and would disqualify from unemployment comp. I went through this when I was surplused. I waited until collecting all my eligible unemployment comp. This is a continuation of the previous post.

If you are going to be honest and report your pension income then find out the length of unemployment benefits in your locality. If pension checks do affect your unemployment and you are eligible for 6 months, delay your pension check for that period of time. Guess it depends on the amount of each. Typically a dollar for dollar offset.

My friend was affected last year in Texes and she said me made mistake of taking pension and it disqualified her for unemployment. Severance shouldn't affect it but pension income would. She said she should have waited to take pension until after unemployment runs out.

Did talk with a lady who filed immediately. Due to timing of receiving pension she actually got a check or two before she got her first pension check. She did the right thing and reported it. She got cut off immediately and was told to repay. Guess it depends on amount of pension versus amount of unemployment you are eligible for.
