Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

They won't wait until June for more layoffs

With the quarterly results being what they are, does anybody actually still believes AT&T will wait until June for the next round of layoffs?

We all know that bad results are immediately covered up by talk of savings that can be achieved through cuts. Which I think will happen this time as well.

I think we can expect more before the end of next month.

@civ - they won't change the policy, as they want to seem accommodating. However, in ATO they have repeatedly said there will be very few people with TW and those will have to be approved personally by the VP. FOW 'should' be in the office 4 days per week, 3 minimum. By minimum, you will be in the danger zone for surplus. They are pulling vpn and door swipe records. They want you in the office, 'collaborating', and doing it happily.

I hope they will not base your lay-offs base on TW or FOW. There are a lot of people with FOW. If they want to implement this, AT&T needs to make it an official policy and change everyone’s indicator to FTO

We are expecting more management lay-off notifications end of April for off payroll end of June. They typically do that for financial accounting. In the meantime, I assume there will be reorg’s before they determine who goes next. Criteria for April’sh-- is rumored to be not only location, but those listed as TW and FOW. They want people who are happy to be in the office.

The financial results might have expedited the layoffs but they have been saying for 5 years the business mix of the company was changing. A lot of the old Legacy is on its death bed. Being good and knowledgeable with the new technology and your main function is to support that part of the business just buys a little more time.

@esf: What does coming in enough mean? Is there a specific number or are you just repeating vague information?

They have NOT put out the ADEA listing yet so that leads me to believe they are not finished notifying people in some groups. Although some areas did receive an all clear email. At minimum, there are plans for a 4th quarter cut. If you are not in a hub location, approved FTW or not coming into the office enough (they check VPN reports) that will be an excuse to eliminate older, higher paid, pension eligible employees. A hell of a lot of knowledge is going out the door now.
