My manager has been laid off yesterday. He had 35+ years of service, gone in a snap... He's the only one departing from my (rather small) group.

Same here, a few managers in our office were surplused, reason given “based on performance” which we know that’s not true. The manangers that are being surplused are retirement eligible.

35 years would put you right in the crosshairs, that’s for sure. Here’s to hoping he can enjoy himself a bit now.
Good for him! Now he can enjoy that lump sum and 35 years of 401K contributions!
