Please don’t take this as any sort of fact, didn’t even hear a rumor, much less have any info. My thinking is based on the rapid rate at which DirecTV is losing subscribers, combined with the stories about the possibilities of AT&T selling off DTV. They showed recently that the leadership is not “shy” to perform layoffs. If the intention of the leadership is indeed to sell DTV they will want to make it more appealing to a potential buyer, and what better way to save cost and release more cash flow than layoffs. On the other hand, if selling is not an option, it’s hard to believe that they will keep the existing headcount, but rather try to implement some sort of reorg. In any case, the headcount could drop.

If they cared about DTV they would be cross training them to do phone and internet. DTV is simple work, not much skill needed to put it in. Contractors do this now. DTV HR54 Genie that they still primarily use is dog sh-- on the new software, it's poor performance is driving customers away, need to move everyone to the Genie 2 just to get close to UVerse functionality. Direct has a lot of issues, mainly its a dinosaur that's getting left behind.
Shortly after T bought us, we watched a Randy video telling us that by 2020 there would no more dishes and no more boxes. Which all of us knew also meant no more us.
Since then over 50% of our shop have moved on to other companies, the rest are just milking the goat until 2020 comes.
soon enough the company will have more management+ employees in the Legacy DTV compared to actual paying subscribers...no counting Promos which equates to 40% of the total count... disturbing indeed.
