Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

My "worst case scenario" prediction wasn't bad enough.

We are not a stagnant part of the organization. We lost so many people throughout our work groups that there is no way I can see us being able to support the systems going forward. Can't happen. We even lost people that were in 1 deep slots without any thought about the impact. Some positions that flat out require multiple people just to support the existing volume of support work and new projects have been reduced to 1 or less headcount. You think the people left behind are going to commit to 24 hour workdays? Not the smart ones. And more cuts coming?

This is not how you reduce headcount in a business that cares about service availability. It's as if the company goal is to shut the lights off and get out of the business entirely. Critical role in order to meet needs of the business. Nope, don't care. Gone. How the hell is that supposed to work?

This was inept and is going to snowball into a logistical nightmare. It really put a spotlight on what steps I need to take next for my personal sanity and health. Holy c-ap, I never would have imagined this in a 100 years.

Last year we lost 3 people out of a 14 person group, and I ended up picking up 1/2 of one person's work, and 1/3 of another persons work. I work in VoIP, IPTC, and IPTF and we have both D1 and D2 work going on, so I was already busy. This time around we lost 2 more (I was one of them) and just got my A&D results back the week before where I was rated at the top of the group. I feel badly for my co-workers as they were already busy as was I, and they are not going to add HC so not quite sure how they are going to manage. Pretty much a blessing to be leaving in a way.

One of 2 things is going happen. Either their plan is to replace employees with contractors, or this company will not be around in another 5 yrs or less. This last round of cuts was NOT good for our business or our customers.

Someone needs to tell these talking heads, they have their heads up their azzez.

Yet each and every time they have a speech, NO ONE hold their feet to the fire. Never a single tough question. Just a bunch of yes sirs. It’s time to push back.

hopefully at&t doesn't become the next enron! terrible upper management still thinks layoffs and unnecessary reorgs will "fix" the problem, duh!

To make profit T needs to sell all wireline, all wireless, and all DirecTv, and just keep Time Warner. Sad but thuth

OP - you sound like you are in my previous workgroup (I was surplussed in 2018). Everything you stated is spot on. Bottom line is that T doesn't really care about it's customers and even more so it's own employees.
