Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Yesterday was brutal

I'll be honest - I still can't wrap my head around who we lost. The best are gone. People we desperately needed to stay are gone. I could see shock and disbelief on some of their faces as they were notified which pretty much mirrored my own.

Yesterday's cuts are going to cost AT&T dearly in the long run. Wrong people made the decision on who to let go and it will show. Trust me on this.

survived but no many that were let go. All due to location but seemed all I personally knew were over 50. All mgmt level 1 but not supervisors. Some worked in legacy, some mobility, some in D2 network -- which is the new stuff. Locations: New Castle, DE. Rochester, NY. Cincinnati, OH. South Carolina. Jackson, MS. Florida. North Carolina. (For states, don't know exact towns, just know state these people worked in). only commonality everyone surplussed had was remoter locations which were impossible to drive to a CZ or hub. BTW: All of these people were great workers - no dead weight. Three I personally know were top performers. So, performance had nothing to do with this. AT&T lost a great wealth of talent yesterday and what is so terribly sad is that, knowing this company, they will give up this CZ notion once it fails (I give it < 1 year because it's a deterrent to productivity most of the time plus can not see higher mgmt tolerating sitting side-by-side w/o privacy or space next to us 'common folk') they will higher a bunch of young inexperienced or H1 visas to fill positions. . . . And WTF is with this "laying off in legacy and focus on hiring in new technologies?!" Didn't Randall and the Johns make thousands of assurances 4 years ago that we would be provided training because they wanted to re-deploy 'the talent we have to where it will be needed for WorkForce 2020". . . . so maddening!!!

@Xmk2EKV-eza why don’t you get a craft job if you hate your management position. You may have to pass a test, did you finish high school or drop out like most management pukes?

"can anyone mention the locations of the layoffs. I keep seeing laid off by location but never see where."

You won't see any specific location information about the lay-offs. AT&T is attempting to shield itself from discrimination law suits, particularly for age discrimination, by saying the lay-offs are based on location.

This is in reply to the person that said this - “Why do folks think they are entitled to”. I have 25 years of service. I have built a career AT&T and have has a great one at that. I’m only 47. I’m 3 years shy of pulling my pension now. I will try to retain employment at AT&T but that likely not possible. I do not feel entitled to something outrageous but I do feel entitled to be treated with decency and respect which that is clearly not the case with this company. I have watched this greedy company pull everything they can from lower level management from healthcare benefits, raises and severance packages. My craft employees would get more of a severance than I will. What a greedy disgusting corrupt company to be leaving. It’s not just ATT it’s all of corporate America. It needs to stop.

Legacy parts of the business? Nope. All parts were impacted. More corporate PR spin

If we would only get rid of Mr. Randall and the Johns and replace them with competent, ethical leadership, we would solve the majority of this organization's problems.

Why do folks think they are entitled to

Some sort of unrealistic severance package. AT&Ts package is very fair unlike many other companies. The days of years pay and extra time are long gone .

My entire team, myself included with over 22 years service, is being shipped offshore to an international location. 58 people gone. Team is spreadout across the US. All because some executives made poor business decisions and are bleeding this company dry.

AT&T has been surplusing thousands of craft employees over the last few years and now some wimpy managers get the boot and your shocked. Go cry in your Caramel Brulée Crème Frappuccino a-hole.

Totally agree. Lost so many yesterday that were excellent employees with vast knowledge of not just our customer base but applications as well all because of their location. I’ve been with the company a long time and they have tried this twice before trying to silo everyone into 2-3 “hubs” and it just doesn’t work. So sad.

And I just read in news it impacted mainly legacy parts of the business. That statement is false. Work in group that cuts expense costs and got cut myself.
