Who wants to bet that people over forty with 10+ years with AT&T are going to disproportionately affected by today's layoffs? That has been the case in every single layoff in the past several years and it will be the case once again. And there is nothing we can do about it. It makes me so angry...

If you are under the CWA mobility orange contract, and relying on your seniority to keep you here, you better read the force adjustment section a little closer. There is a line there in section 3 that they snuck in that you can be sure the company will utilize. “According to seniority, subject to their skills and experience”.
Lots of the “old timers” in the field refusing to go down to Texas in the past couple years for training, may find that some lower seniority guys below them, now have “skills” they don’t, especially when coming to the new emerging technologies.
They will get rid of people according to location, regardless if you are CWA or not. An independent firm is involved also, and most managers have no say in the matter.
If you are under a CWA contract, layoffs are 100% by seniority--age has nothing to do with it. If you are on the management side, you could be targeted by age. This is the way it has always been.
Sounds like a lawyer could challenge where you lived link with age. I think they have to publish lay-off stats?
THEY get around it by using address. Where you live is not a protected class.
This seems like seeing it rain outside then flushing the toilet and thinking the flush is causing the rain.
How do they get around age discrimination?
Every single layoff? May want to do your research. I've lost over 200+ brothers and sisters in my area. All premtechs. I don't know too many of them over 40.
