Good luck today on everyone that is getting paroled from the prison that is AT&T. While they like to think that they are the only employer in the country, they are not. I was paroled 10/19, and found a job in a matter of weeks. Enjoy the time you have off, if you have a pension roll it into an IRA, they don’t tell you if anything happens your spouse only gets half of your pension.

OP " they don’t tell you if anything happens your spouse only gets half of your pension"...that's only if you elect the spousal survivorship benefit (which would in turn reduce the amount you get each month). If you don't elect that, your benefit dies with you. This is among many reasons why MOST of the time you're better off taking the lump sum and investing it on your own, generate your own monthly income off of it.
