Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Paying the Piper

The cost savings from all these layoffs won't even be enough to cover a year's worth of interest on that $300B worth of debt. AT&T is a dead man walking.

When I say "team" I mean union techs specifically under you. It does make a difference. A lot.

The way to survive is be in a Union position and have enough seniority.

Nano degrees, feelings, Six Sigma belts etc-none of that matters.

And you're not on a "team" or your "team" would help you out when the call comes.

That's corporate speak.

Instead, your "team" will be glad it's you and not them.

Yes, AT&T will be just fine. Taxpayers will bail them out.

That is an emotional way to look at it I understand.

But, if you step back, you will see that Labor is the biggest drain/lever for a company to pull.

Look at all the benefits, discounts, company matches on top of salaries ANNUALLY that the company will no longer be paying out on the accounting books.

Only way to survive is to choose stability and boring positions with a team under you to last a bit longer and make strategic moves throughout the career to extend the date of the eventual phone call.
