Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Just got notice - rebalanced my 401k to shed AT&T Shares.

... they aren't getting anymore of my money.

I sold all the AT&T stock in my 401k years ago. When the company contributed stock grows I sell it. Managers drank so much kool-aid bad mouthing craft employees, now they’re choking on it. Take a services technician job and tote the 28 footer all day, dodge dog feces and deal with the next kool-aid drinking soon to be fired lazy manager.

Case in point. After I left in October I did a lot of research & ended up going with a robo-advisor. I have been VERY PLEASED. I just compared January 2019 earnings from the robo-advisor to Fidelity FIRST QUARTER 2018 401K plan and I have already made double in 1 month compared to 3 months last year. And last year I was contributing & the company was matching but there was a capital loss.

If this keeps up it will be a nice little supplemental income, just the cash the money is making! 401Ks were designed in 1980 for retirement but more people say now if you took your money and invested it yourself you would be earning more. But I was a AT&T kool-aid drinker so I was like ‘the company match, the stock’. Fidelity does everything for AT&T in AT&T centered plans of some sort- stocks, bonds, mutual funds, you see where this is going, so now I think the naysayers might have been right. Oh & this robo-advisor company uses Vangaurd Funds. Which are good. See there is life after AT&T.

"But Randall is now working for you and paying you dividends. "

With their debt load I would worry about the stability of that dividend. If interest rates increase refinancing could be a problem forcing them to use that cash to service debt instead of paying out dividends. I'm a share holder and it worries me a little, especially if TW works like the Direct TV acquisition.

I have been dumping it for awhile

Sold the last 2 weeks ago. Might not have been high, but higher than it will be a year from now.

Your entire company match was ATT stock. So you sold low? What a mo--n, no wonder you got sh-- canned. Any manager in my area who got let go today has done no real work in years. Nobody has seen them in years.

Roll that into an IRA, buy actual ATT stock and vote Randy out!

OKay so you got laid off and no longer work for Randall.

But Randall is now working for you and paying you dividends.

6% yield isn't too bad.

you know how these layoffs work in that area? Randall doesn't care how his workers feel... but he's going to do it anyway because he's going to report $xxx savings in 2019, net income going up, operating cost are lower etc etc ...driving the stock potentially higher.

and the people that benefit from these are him and the LWD goons - look at the insider trading off nasdaq, they always buy and sell at the market lowest....

That may have been a really bad emotional decision

You would have been better off buying at current prices or making them pay you low taxed dividend checks
