13 years as an operations manager (central office), the last 4 without any direct reports (evenings) but with responsibility for 200+ offices. Never have I had a bad evaluation, at least 50% of them have been "exceeds" or the equivalent. 23 years total with the company. All of it undone with a single phone call and my boss says he was not asked for any input.
Thank God for the years I've had. Time to move on I guess

Just because you have lot of service with a company does not mean you are dead weight. I remember when I was hired after college in 1975, there were employees who had 30 years and some 40 years and were hard workers and mentored many of us younger employees. We are in a different corporate environment now and my last five years with AT&T, it became cut-throat because of people feared being surplused(better you than me). You all know, it’s just a matter of time before your number is up. This has been going on since 2006. Be kind and have empathy for all involved.
Unfortunately, there is not a lot you can do about it. I had the same ratings and still ended up in the October18 layoffs. There are other jobs out there and a lot less stressful. Make sure you extend your time to the latest you can - that provides a couple months of income. Then take your severance and plan for life after ATT.

There is no logic this is a business decision based on 180 billion reasons. Walk out of here proud knowing you did a great job.
Similar situation - only 9 years here though. Its been a tough morning :(
