Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

These layoffs have been done in a sneaky manner

Not that I ever liked the AT&T leadership, but the manner in which these layoffs are being done is a new level of sneakiness even from them. No heads up ( other than the circulating rumors that turned out to be true) targeting the weakest in the heard: remote workers, people that couldn't report to collaboration zones, elderly employees. Many companies perform mass layoffs but I haven’t seen a lot of them go through with this level of ruthlessness. Just look what happened at Verizon a little earlier. 10K employees got buyout packages, others were given an option to relocate to their party companies. I.m not saying all of us should have been offered a buyout, but a simple heads-up would be the humane thing to do.

Today was AWFUL! The 6 managers I know who were surplussed all worked within 15 miles of a CZ in Detroit. Some were FTO and others FOW. I was not told I was surplussed but I wasn’t told I was safe either. Mcelfresh letter said “over the next several months” so no knowing what’s awaiting us in the days ahead. Those 6 managers were good people, conscientious workers and the way this is going down is brutal.

The only managers that got laid off today by me were very deserving of being canned. There were multiple communications from the company since 2015 that the company was doing serious shifts in business for 2020. This was just the start. My guess if you were too stupid to realize what was happening the. The company picked the right manager to get rid of. You were a sh-- shield for the rest of us.

Sh-- shield= A dumb--s that doesn’t realize he/she is a dumb--s. They are alway the first to get sh-- canned saving decent hard working people.

Problem with class action or individual case is you lose severance and possibly end up with $0.

Any affected thinking of not signing and getting a lawyer? Has there been success with this in the past. Age discrimination, high salary and in a NON-COLLABRATIVE zone??? Seems worthy of a look.

Out of 48 management employees targeted, we lost 11 today. Out of the 7 names I know that were affected, only one was outside of a CZ. So this does not make sense since 6 of the names work in CZs. Maybe CZ was only part of it and they also looked at another factor to choose names. Since I heard there was an independent company who was involved in choosing names, maybe there was an algorithm used that makes an employee more favorable to keep than others.

Sad state of affairs at this company. I feel like 2020 is code word for no employees.

These layoffs have been done in a $hitty, not sneaky manner. John Donovan (Satan) said in his townhall in Dec that this was coming...and how much it “hurts” he and his peers. Yeah right, I’m sure they’re crying into their golden parachutes while sitting in their multi-million dollar Dallas castles.

Then Jeff McA$$hat sent that infamous email at the beginning of Jan telling us it’s coming.

It wasn't sneaky. If you read the email sent at the end of January, there was no doubt as to what was going to happen -- none at all. You had to read between the lines a bit. Your manager would have been able to help you decipher if you were a bit confused by it. It was pretty clear they were going on geographics; it was not clear if that would be the only deciding factor and as I see it, it was also performance based. In addition, I think it was pretty easy to see that there was an "urging" of those who could retire to do so; and I think if you read into it enough you could see that many of those who were retirement eligible were going to be cut (those most especially with 30 years or more). I know of quite a few that were over 30 years (actually over 35 years) that were cut loose.

I know some managers that had Q&A’s with their team after the McElfresh email.

John Donovan actually talked about this happening during his town hall last Dec.

"No heads up ( other than the circulating rumors that turned out to be true)" - there was an email sent at the beginning of January.
