Att has so many duplicate level 1 and level 2 jobs. People that have a management title and don’t have any direct reports is a waste of money. They are overpaid, glorified gophers. There are so many middle men that need to be cut. Keep the jobs for people helping people. Huge joke, the top needs a new regime. It’s just recycling the same old trash

"@oy1, where does that 500K number coming from? If you search up Randell in Amplify, there are only ~200K report to him."

I go through WebPhone and use the OrgMail function to get headcounts.

If you want to be through you need to export to Excel so you can extract non-US workers and contractors from the totals. Besides looking at Randall you need to look at Donovan and McElfresh to get an idea of the distribution. AT&T has over fifty subsidiaries, a number of them foreign and thousands of foreign contractors on the books. Since 2011, the company has closed 44 call centers and moved the jobs to 10 vendors with call centers in 8 foreign countries

Wall Street reported that AT&T had 252,000 employees on payroll at the end of 2018 but does not tally the foreign and domestic contractors.

The number that really matters is how many are manager 1 and up in The US.

Three years ago I read an article with Stephenson saying our workforce would be cut in half by 2020.

I believe management will try to bring down count to 230k by end of this year means 40k employees will be asked to leave and another 30k next year.

Using the employee count for any analysis must be screwy because of the companies T has bought which temporarily inflate that count. We do know the core reality is they are constantly trying to cut the jobs of the people who actually do the work.

To meet the $20B debt buy down promise from T to Wall Street by EOY, then they need to get rid of about 100k people.

I think they want to go as low as possible and go with a large contract force. I am a contractor now, but when I was an OSP Engineer we were kind of told that those that stay, by the end of all this, will be contract administrators and will send work out to the contract companies and then do quality checks when the contractors return the jobs. Engineers will not engineer anymore. I knew engineers who didn't engineer jobs before I left and just sent jobs to the contract companies. I think their business plan is to see just how low they can go in head count and still get things done.

Randall talks about this in an interview with Forbes from May 17’. (On YouTube, link below). First 5 mins “only need about 100K to run this thing”

@tdm

there is no innovation but how about customer service and treating employees and customers like humans.make the products we do have relevant...stop buying stupid companies and overpaying.The list is long but the majority of these problems have been created by the inept leadership .

I think you're correct about Arnoldi. I bet she forced the previous voluntary offer and that got her banished. They want to look tough.

I wish I had saved the email but a few years back the Randall & John B.S. Show said the 2020 goal was sub 180k. I have always assumed that was the count for the US only. If you look at total headcount including overseas and contractors we are close to 500k total.

Melissa Arnoldi was not making her cuts quickly enough so she was banished to a little corner of the company. Make-Me-Fresh took over and has been very aggressive about jettisoning US based employees.

@tdm, are you for real? This is why being able to get m-r-j-a-a should be more difficult to get!

Cost reduction is #1 priority of the company. One way is employee layoffs. however in bigger scheme of things they still folks for cost optimization projects / work. There is no innovation which can bring company out of this mess. Its an end game... there is enormous pressure from market dynamics and customer churn, like a slow death
