Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

collaboration zones, hubs, are a smoke screen

they are getting rid of folks because the business is suffering. no budgets = no work. if you decide to move, understand you are still probably going to get wacked at some point. when leadership made a lot of people move to calf about 50% of those were given walking papers soon after.

Many of the jobs are getting moved to the non-existing collocation HUBS overseas where labor is cheaper. My job was not eliminated, it is being given to the lowest bidder.

Collocation zones....a solution to laying off people who might otherwise qualify to file discrimination lawsuits. Well played legal. Not a good business decision (as usual) but a good litigation strategy. So desperate....

Don't fall for the "Move to State X and you will have a job" ploy. I had friends working for Verizon that were told in 2003 if they moved to New Jersey from LA they would have a job. They did. For about 18 months. They found out the hard way that once you leave an expensive state such as California, its not easy affording to move back.

Agree. All this nonsense only makes sense if it's a move to get rid of as many people cost-free as possible. Why pay severance when you can make life so miserable people will leave on their own?

Agreed , CZ rationale is made up BS, this is all part of a larger executive RIF strategy, to trim headcount by first creating discomfort in hopes of some voluntary retirements followed eventually surplussing those left over.

To see where T is heading you need to listen to quarterly calls next one is on 1/30. But it's clear with current debt load they need to trim folks to make the street happy and keep executive numbers going in the right direction.

If you relocate on your on dime for this company, at this point in time, you truly deserve what you get.
