Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

IHX layoffs

IHX directors and area managers will be reduced. Island experts not in the same city as their coworkers are toast. Areas not at 25 postpaid voice per expert are likely going to go away. It will be brutal!

IHX will be the ones installing the new full service DirecTV OTT product (Osprey) in the long term for non-AT&T wireless customers when customers request install then cross-selling wireless. U-Verse TV new sales will be phased out late this year and satellite DIRECTV over the next several years as 5G expands. The product lines will merge into this new product line. Techs will eventually only install AT&T fiber internet. IHX will install the self-install TV when customers need the extra help. Beyond the sales success and profitability of IHX now, this is why iHX is expanding when other parts of the business are not for long term growth. There is a long 5-10 year business plan in place for IHX.

IHX are so called managers.....not really sure what the manage....other than screw up orders and drive off leaving the techs to clean up their mess!! One thing is for sure zero job security, let go at any time for no reason.

“IHX is not going anywhere. They invested a lot of time, money and effort into that channel. Just because DTV installs will go away doesn't mean IHX goes away. They will change the way IHX works.”

You are right and wrong. Att invests a ton of money and resources all the time and closes projects after. IHX is profitable today and important for T. They will probably repurpose IHX for a different role but that’s doesn’t mean people will not loose jobs. Up to 6 years retail never had a national surplus, things chance. IHX is growing again this year but will eventually loose headcount like and other business it has its growth and retraction cycles.

I’m assuming you are in IHX. If so, I would take advantage of the growth and try working your way up and then go for a lateral move to a different department, like Xander, even if you are Director. IHX is good experience but use it for what it is...

Why is this becoming a COR vs IHX thing? You realize ATT is hurting and IHX was a desperate move by T to get gross ads. Guess what the move worked and IHX is a success for now.

The problem is that ATT is trying to become “digital” and as DTV installs go down and eventually close to 0, IHX will not longer be needed. Now that happen this year but it will happen over the next 5 years.

For COR people laughing, don’t get to c---y. It is true that retail is intergral footprint for ATT but over the last 5+ years traffic has reduced. Also with Rashesh Patel(head of all mobility) plan, there has actually been an expansion in retail. But that is a reaction to the market with T-Mobile and Verizon doing well in retail footprint. This expansion is shortedlived. Stores will close and distribution will be consolidated over the 5 years as well.

This isn’t a COR vs IHX problem. It’s an employee versus ATT problem. An article recently came out in the journal stating that ATT has the largest headcount (in terms of revenue per a head) out of the big telcos. Per the 2020 plan and other hints given out by the leadership team, ATT is proactively reducing workforce.

The "weakest link?" Haha that's about the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. Most IHX experts that do their job right can outsell anyone cor. Get your facts straight. Watch the kickoffs and you will know that IHX is not the weakest link. Go find some other BS to right about falsely.

Their sales are doing very well and there are plans to expand the channel this year. This is all BS

They tag along with installers for a dying service to try to sell another dying service? I’d be p-ss-d if I had an ad show up during an installation window. Hope the s-x is good because that does not sound like a sustainable job in this market.

This is why they were not in the union. Easy to get rid of when the experiment failed.
