Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Survey: How to make at&t a better place?

Since they are asking us to provide feedback and I know people will be guarded regarding what they write and what's shared with the management, we can use this thread to tell them what we truly think. If we are able to keep it kosher (I know, it's an anon board) and we manage to collect some reasonable feedback, I will personally share this thread with my VP and Dir.

Customer service and quality are lost to “ numbers “ and the downfall is spiraling because upper management doesn’t give a rats a$$ about either !

Absolutely agree with comment "now, we're in full do more with less mode, recalled fulltime to office even though no teammates nearby so two hour roundtrip commute, barely see my family, micromanaged, ratings a joke, log in every night and ever weekend to get work done, constant fluxes between things being highest priority one day and canceled the next, everyone miserable and stressed." . . . training is horrendous and productivity down due to the micromanagement that is drilled down from the top. Can see the need for calling workforce into an office WHERE it makes sense: too many organizations and teams, mine included, are scattered geographically all across the country as well as our customers. What's needed to turn AT 2) put some money into actual, in-depth training - not these PLE 'slide shows' that says you know the material if you answer this quiz; 3) restructure the performance farce -- Bell curves, as used in some of my 'weed out' college courses does not accurately reflect one's performance. to allow only a small minority to reap most of the monetary payout awards = a culture of mediocre performances (why work your butt off year after year without reward and no appreciation); 4) stop micromanaging and philosophy of 'must fit square peg in round hole' when it comes to top-level mgmt decisions and policies: AT 5) get rid of the Johns and actually hire in some 'out of the box' managers with creative ideas and thoughts. My God, I've been with this company nearly 30 years and it becomes more and more Orwellian. Here's a hint John, John and Randall: if you make Orwellian decisions and policies at the top of the chain, it breeds a stifled, Orwellian corporate culture and it's this company culture you have cultivated that is at the crux of the problem

Dream on . Your VP & Dir don't care . T execs as a whole don't care. It's just a futile exercise to make employees feel as though they have a voice. Lol, we all know we DON"T. It's just PR and no matter how we tell them the truth , their analysis that is sent out at the end will tell us that " it's all butterflies and rainbows at T. If you're not happy , it's your fault " Anyone who has worked here long enough knows its BS and a waste of time.

I worked for AT&T for 28 years starting as a tech for Illinois Bell, and finishing as an OSP Engineer for Pacific Bell (the old name). I'm also 3rd generation phone company on both sides of my family. I have told my daughter not to look at AT&T as a career or even a job when she gets out of college. I don't say this lightly since the phone company has put food on the table for many of my family for decades and decades. But I just don't think that this company is ran well at all at the top levels. I think they need new and different blood in Texas. They just don't seem to know how to make a company grow without buying other companies.

The current training was awful but when I started it was top notch. I was let go last Sept, but I told my 2nd to lay me off if there are layoffs, so I'm not saying this with 'sour grapes' but it just isn't a good company. And with the last few years of layoffs it seems it is almost cut-throat things going on. Just my opinion though.

What a stupid post! They could care less what their employees think! Either you are incredibly naïve or are just some executive trolling this board!

If you don't "drive the ship" suggestions are worthless, T like most big fortune 500 are driven by the market and the numbers ,. Especially by senior execs this is the nature of the beast. They control what direction the companies go in, and the rest of us are just on hard for the ride.

As well as the $hit that rolls down from the top. The Johns to be exact.

There is a relevant sports analogy here. Ever hear the expression "the coach has lost the room"? That is precisely what has happened here over the last several years. Randall and John and team have lost the room. And once it happens, there's no getting it back.

High pressure to deliver without formal training. T use to be on point when it came to training our work force but somehow that's been overlooked. And I'm not saying the little frivolous training they provide, but in-depth technical training is not being offered anymore.

Too many email pushers in the company and useless calls that consumes hours each day. It's truly mind blowing that people really thinking their doing work when they push emails all day. I guess they think they are consulting lol!!!!!

Micro-managing seasoned managers: It's comical that some managers truly being their managing by watching screen capture all day, pushing emails, trying to dictate what and how things to be done but can't answer a simple technical question.

People in technical roles but not technical at all: if you can't tell me how the network works from End to End than have A seat 💺. I'm sorry for the big egos who thinks the network ends at the cell site lol 😆 Umm yeah we gonna have go re-evaluate your position Asap lol

Over the last 5 years my answer has drasticly changed.

5 years ago, great worklife balance, almost full freedom to WFH at my discretion so no commute, great ratings and compensation, all that matters is you get the work done, work a few nights and weekends here and there, great relationships with teammates.

now, we're in full do more with less mode, recalled fulltime to office even though no teammates nearby so two hour roundtrip commute, barely see my family, micromanaged, ratings a joke, log in every night and ever weekend to get work done, constant fluxes between things being highest priority one day and canceled the next, everyone miserable and stressed.

Would never suggest working for the company even if it was my worst enemy. And, would never suggest using any of the services since the pricing seems to mysteriously change all the time. Until both customers and employees matter to the company, I have nothing good to say

Your VP and Dir won't be able to make any difference, and that's the truth.
