Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

That’s not AT&T’s style

The timing of the Surplus date may well be strategic, or the OP may be on to it... "why make it easier on employees, right? That’s not AT&T’s style."

In his blood, Randy was never T.

When T merged with SBC (‘05-‘06) we kept the T branding worldwide but SBC held the reigns. Randy was a homegrown from Southwestern Bell since his beginnings in 1982. He held many titles, then was moved over AT&T shortly before becoming T’s CEO, that was in 2007 and the rest, we know!

I came in as a programmer about the time he started his career. The AT&T I new then paid me for an honest weeks pay and I gave it to them without regret, not even a second thought. As I expanded my skills, they expanded my pay....commitment went both ways.

When Randy entered our lives, the sun went away and has yet to return.

Well said @Xi32xfm-utr

@1jho, sorry and I didn’t mean to infer otherwise, like I said, "SBC held the reigns," They were smart enough to know that keeping the T branding is what was important.

SBC and Ed Whitacre saved us at the old AT&T. Not only did they financially save AT&T but they brought us a management team that had far more integrity and employee focus than the selfish and mean spirited existing AT&T management led by Dave Dorman. That group of mo--ns were quickly driving the company to insolvency.

I worked for SBC and SWBW before we bought AT&T. We were all so p-ss-d because our benefits, specifically # of vacation days were dumbed down to what AT&T had. Nothing has been the same since we’ve taken the Death Star logo...and here we are, on a lay-off board.

Southwestern Bell took over AT&T not the other way around. Whitacare was mad because on the 1st attempt to merge the AT&T CEO insulted him. So he told him he would come back and SBC would buy AT&T and fire that CEO. And he made good on it.

Exactly! SBC was so behind what we had as streamlined processes in Pacific Bell & we were staffed according. They forced their backwards time consuming way of doing things, but didn’t care that the West didn’t have the personnel to do the job. And then cut more jobs anyway. It’s really heartbreaking 😩
