Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This will be a long weekend

I really wish they decided not to wait for Monday. There is no need for it. I am willing to bet that 99 percent of people would have rather known today than have to spend the entire weekend agonizing and stressing over what is to come.

But why make it easier on employees, right? That's not AT&T's style.

@pnf- You clearly don’t understand the current company culture fostered at “T”, my guess is you are nothing but a troll.

I have been with the "Death Star" for nearly 11 years. I came here from being laid off from Sprint. It happens..just deal with it. It has been a good ride!!!!!

If not Monday then you'll be in the next wave.

My kids will out live AT&T. Market doesn't believe in the company direction which is reflected in the stock price. Leadership buys a TV service (DirecTV) that was entering a cable cutters blood bath and now they buy company that prodcues content most people don't want or watch.

Psst....Hey leadership. Google (YouTube) is giving up on subscription streaming and now you want to enter it? Always out of touch with the customer and it shows again.

Worst of all we are entering a market where over leveraged companies are tagged as the next bubble. To fellow employees, Sell that company match att stock (which is about the only people buying it)

Take the package and make use of your life by moving past att.

The affected employees know who they are. It shouldn’t be a surprise on Monday.

The timing of the Surplus date may well be strategic, or the OP may be on to it... "why make it easier on employees, right? That’s not AT&T’s style."

In his blood, Randy was never T.

When T merged with SBC (‘05-‘06) we kept the T branding worldwide but SBC held the reigns. Randy was a homegrown from Southwestern Bell since his beginnings in 1982. He held many titles, then was moved over AT&T shortly before becoming T’s CEO, that was in 2007 and the rest, we know!

I came in as a programmer about the time he started his career. The AT&T I new then paid me for an honest weeks pay and I gave it to them without regret, not even a second thought. As I expanded my skills, they expanded my pay....commitment went both ways.

When Randy entered our lives, the sun went away and has yet to return.

This is the first of 4 layoffs in 2019 with another one scheduled for Q1 2020. Plan to be stressed out all year.

Jeff said these cuts will continue for the next several months. First wave is supposed to be Monday 1/28, 2nd wave is supposed to be in April. Supposedly the April cut will be targeting "Remote People". So the beatings will continue until morale improves!

Agonizing and stress does not end on Monday, Jeff clearly stated this is ongoing and I expect it will be a long time before one can feel safe again.

I still amazes me that he sent that email and from what we have learned on this board no other executive at that level did anything close to what he did. Was it his attempt to be transparent as he said he would be during his first town hall in his new position? I have to think someone has since slapped him across the side of the head and said why did you send that out.

I’ve made peace with whatever the outcome is. I’m not stressing about it anymore. Surplus or not, I’m planning on leaving. The announcement just reflects the timing. Hope I’m on the list so I can get the severance. Already have interviews lined up with other companies.
