Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

8% of ATO/TFS to be Surplused

TFS Townhall today with President of Unit made it very clear today. This is an Involuntary layoff with 8% of TFS to receive layoff notices in next 2 weeks- not even distribution across groups. If you work at a location with equipment Collaboration Zones don’t apply. If you don’t live in a Collaboration Zone and don’t have equipment move to one of the 10 Hub cities at your own expense if a job is available. It equates to approx. 4165 people out of her span of control of 52,050 employees. Someone posted this is a buyout- it is not as HR also spoke during the Townhall. No buyouts in 2019............

@2e1m - be careful with that. T can take ‘unearned’ vacation days out of your last check. Even though you can technically use them all beginning Jan 1st, you haven’t really earned them. From what I understand they won’t go after people who used more than accrued before they were notified of being surplused. However, once you get notice, if you quickly try to use them all, they have the option to take the money back.

Come on AT&T- just do it! Let’s watch the useless directors and up try to figure out what needs to be done and how to get it done! I’m looking forward to seeing the mayhem next week! You, AT&T continue to run the company into the ground. Massive layoffs might just do you in.

I heard 1 layoff every quarter in 2019 and 1 in 1st quarter 2020 for management staff. They have been laying management staff off since 2015 but you don't hear about that. They must make the ex-employees sign a confidentiality agreement.

But you would get the surplus $$ which would vary on your numbers of years with the company right? So 20 years service would get 6 months of pay. Wish it was like Verizon's latest offer!

Management severance depends on years with the company. Thirteen or more years at time off payroll is 50% salary, every year less than 13, subtract 4%. They only pay vacation days you have ‘earned’ by the time you leave. (Even though you technically can use them all at the beginning of the year, you really didn’t earn them all. ) If you hurry and take them all after being notified, they can charge them back to you (take it out of last check or severance ) if they choose.

So like some severance and a good kick in the butt to help you out the door. What is severance for non union. They pay vacation out?

Did anyone ask if there will be more later in 2019? that seems an obvious question.

TFS: Technical Field Services (aka “Core” or outside line techs)

IEFS: Internet and Entertainment Field Services (aka “Prem Techs” or inside line techs)

I believe both groups will be effected not just one.

What is TFS?

@XggCRwu-qyw, My understanding is that field techs are covered under union contract and thus surplus announcements have to follow a schedule of every 90 days, or each quarter of the year. This announcement does not follow that schedule, so this is not for craft. Appendix J employees do not have to follow this schedule though.

The sentiment was that the further away one is from customer facing or physically maintaining the network infrastructure, the more at risk one is to being let go.

She couldn’t provide an answer to the question regarding the $100MM AT&T is spending renovating downtown LOL because there is no legitimate answer just the elite in Dallas creating their safe space.
