So when applying for NJ unemployment in NJ it can be done over the internet. My understanding is that there is a follow up face to face. How long does this take to schedule and what questions do they ask

This was a downsize and inevitable for many. I was told my job would be gone in the next six months. This was a one lump "severance pay either voluntary or by company choice. On standard you get 35 weeks on a RIF and 24 months on unemployment.. DO the math.. pretty much the same thing with an option for a 6 month extension after the first 6 months by taking a course.
So if you read it correctly or not would love to hear feed back....
Can I Collect Unemployment if I Get a Severance Package in New Jersey?
By: Jill Stimson
In New Jersey, unemployed workers can file for unemployment benefits for up to 26 weeks. The state allows claimants to receive unemployment benefits while they are simultaneously receiving severance pay. Although severance pay does not reduce an applicant's unemployment benefits, other types of compensation paid when employment ends can reduce benefits. With the exception of severance pay, claimants must report all other income while they are receiving unemployment benefits.
Remuneration in Lieu of Notice
Remuneration in lieu of notice is a bar to unemployment benefits, and claimants who receive remuneration in lieu of notice are not eligible for unemployment benefits for those weeks. New Jersey law considers remuneration as regular income required by contract. However, if a claimant receives remuneration pay for a few days in one week, she may receive partial unemployment benefits.
Severance Pay
Although many states consider severance pay as income, New Jersey does not. According to the New Jersey Unemployment Insurance Law, claimants receiving severance pay are eligible to receive unemployment insurance benefits. Furthermore, severance pay does not reduce benefits. However, the Department of Labor and Workforce Development conducts a case-by-case analysis to ensure the payment a claimant receives is legitimate severance pay. Generally, employers pay severance to their employees based on their total years of service. Severance pay based on past service is not included as income, and the state will not offset a claimant's benefits for severance pay.
Severance and Continuation Pay
Severance pay is a lump sum or installment payment that is not contingent upon notice. Severance pay is based on past work or services, and is not contingent upon future work. However, New Jersey considers continuation pay as income, since it is paid in periodic payments or installments as income in lieu of notice. When a claimant receives "continuation pay," and not actually "severance pay," it is considered income.
Furthermore, a claimant who receives continuation pay is not eligible for unemployment benefits. Unlike severance pay, continuation pay is a complete bar to benefits, and a claimant receiving continuation pay is still working, according to New Jersey law. Since contingent pay is a form of compensation for future services or lack thereof, the state considers it as income.
Salary Continuation Through Termination
Similar to continuation pay, salary continuation pay is considered income and is a bar to unemployment benefits. An individual receiving salary continuation through termination pay is ineligible for benefits until her payments end.
Considerations
Since state laws can frequently change, do not use this information as a substitute for legal advice. Seek advice through an attorney licensed to practice law in your state.
So take some time and chew on this and let me know your thoughts. Last thought.. why would 2018 vacation time impact a 2019 unemployment claim when it was earned in 2018 and only paid out the first week of 2019. The more input the better
This is all based around New Jersey.
Depends on the state but for some states (mine) you can't collect unemployment until your equivalent work weeks in severance are exhausted. It has nothing to do with "voluntary". Previous riffed employees were denied just as VSPers.
I wasn't part of the VSP but imagine since it VOLUNTARY, highly doubt I'd be approved and shame on any state that would pay benefits to those who chose to bail.
Yes, and I know of 5 others as well $696.
This is why this was a bad move for anyone who was not close to retirement or had something lined up and was ready for a change. The taxes take a huge chunk of the money and the bills quickly consume what's left. Notice though that none of the people responsible for the billion dollar debacles of Oath, Go90 and all of the other nonsense have been held accountable for their actions.
I got approved $696.00 a week
I know of 2 people got unemployment in MA. They were given it because the company could have kept them until June like others but they were released on December. They had no choice
In Pa. union members that took ISP or EISP offers have been denied unemployment. It is viewed as a voluntary separation.
Wonder if union folk are denied as well when they take the ISP
We all took an integrity class recently at Verizon. Have folks forgot what that word means anymore?
No unemployment if you volunteer to quit your job.
Why would we want to collect unemployment when we are being paid very well already to stay home to look for another job? Would prefer to save the unemployment $ for others who really needed more than us.
They denied mine (not NJ) due to vacation pay. They also said that I quit which is a joke as I have a LOR from my boss stating that my position was eliminated which I just submitted as part of my appeal.
No, I was denied. Would like to hear from others...
