Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Another VSP?

Does anyone think the VSP or something similar will be offered again this year? Apparently the unions will be getting their offer next. Straight to RIF next time?

Based upon the layoffs for Oath announced today I would say that's a big fat negative

No other offer for a loooong time . Still have a few months before all those accepted leave . Those who didn’t take it had their chance , now just gotta make it thru the rifs . Now just offer something to the outside and clear house !

The last VSP was 15 years ago and not all the people have left from the current VSP so I doubt there will be another for the next couple of years.

Hans will never offer another VSP. That is why it was offered to all. Any reduction from here on in will be done via a RIF. Keep in mind, any RIF will not offer the same weeks pay as the past years. I was told any future RIF will be 2, maybe 4 weeks pay. Verizon 2.0 will never be the same come 4/1/19. Gear up V Teamers and get those resumes updated. After Q1 the RiFs will be fast and frequent.

I agree with bqt. They knew exactly what to do to get the result they wanted without the threat of lawsuits, They wanted as many of the people with a pension as they could get, gone. I don't know how many of the takers had a pension but if they want to get rid of any more people, pension owners or not, I believe it will just be a RIF. They offered this VSP to 44,000 people, why would they offer it again? They will just have a RIF I believe. I also don't think they published how many volunteered and how many were denied. I know some people who were denied didn't have much time, they picked who could go and who couldn't.

No way there will be another for a very long time.

I don't see another VSP. The only reason companies pay out when they let employees go is to reduce the chance of lawsuits. This current VSP will be used as a forcefield. "See, you had your chance." The next few RIF's will have people kicking themselves, particularly older workers. There's no need to have another one in next five years, and by then they will have some significant 5G rolled out.

The chance of another VSP in the next 5-10 years is virtually zero

If the desired number was not reached, it makes sense to sweeten the offer. However, those waiting on their March and June end dates, as well as those gone already would be angry so, ain’t gonna happen.

considering how long ago the last VSP was, no I don't think you'll see another one any time soon. They will just RIF where there are redundancies after the Vz 2.0 structure is in place.
