Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

When is the anticipated wave of cuts going to start?

I apologize if this topic was discussed earlier, and I’ve seen people debate about it on other threads, but my intention was to sublimate any opinions on when could the cuts start in a more organized manner and what form of reductions could we see. Are we gonna see a mass buyout ( like we saw at Verizon), a wave of mandatory layoffs, or maybe something in the middle?

The severance pay policy is not changing any time soon. There is no thought of doing so,

Severance is being lowered to 25% in the first week of April. After this round is over. Bookmark this post.

I seriously doubt they will change the documented severance policy in a week

@2rhn, policy is policy, maybe it’s not good for the company but severance isn’t about the company. It’s what the company ‘committed’ to do for the employee. Management policy has been 50% salary for 13 years+ since 2015.

3 months is fair, considering that ATT is ripping off the shareholders by extending the lower interest rate for pension withdrawals. 6 months severance for a company that dropped over 20% last year? Ridiculous.

@2dth - “However, this time, regardless of the time with the company, most will only see 3 mo. of severance.”

Management severance policy is available on the internal site and easily accessible. It states 13+ years gets 50%, subtract 4% for every year before then. Are you saying T is going to come out with something other than their stated and published policy?

28th - most of empl.

The lists have been already handed down to the Directors by HQ. Some Directors didn't had any input on the lists. It was mostly based on telecommuting, VPN usage and so called collaboration zone. Yes age, time with the company and salary was taken into consideration. The managers had the names for almost a week now.

However, this time, regardless of the time with the company, most will only see 3 mo. of severance.

Two years ago, and subsequent cuts after, I noticed a pattern when the announced Surplus day came, as did others.

Personal Emails sent out for employees to be ready for an individual one on one, in the morning, were signs of bad news.....instructions were then given to gather for repeated conference call Q & A’s over the coming weeks which offered to smooth your exit, and attempts to find work within other departments.

The un impacted employees, by way of an e-mail, were on an afternoon call to tell everyone that they were indeed still employed, but of course no one new it at the time, info from the morning calls were slow to reach us. This pattern repeated itself for a time then I lost track.

Some on these posts have suggested a 1/25 & 1/28 split announcement (a Friday/Monday) and this is why I mention the multiple possibilities to prepare for.....good luck.

@Xbp6zA0-ilc , for the same reason we don't see layoffs in the news, but somehow we are losing thousands of employees every year after year. T mastered the art of getting rid of people just like the movie The MAtrix, LOL

@noc - layoffs are not ‘happening every day’ , and that’s what this site is for- information regarding the next round. How does your comment provide anything beneficial?

I second Monday, 1/28 for ATO notifications. Have heard this consistently. While odd for a Monday, it puts off-payroll exactly end of March.

My group in Digital Retail Care under Patel has already had a good number of employees notified. Some have already left as of this week. We were notified a couple weeks ago. Some were told immediate - last day Feb 28, others told end of the month which I’m assuming is next Friday Jan 25th (they always do it on Friday). The rest were told they are safe. Based on already notified, notified but not told yet, and safe, it appears to be a massive cut >30%.

it could be about 6-10 percent each quarter which would add up to about 30 percent for the year. this is what they have been doing to other groups across the company. avoids negative publicity and the warn act

@jgl disagree based on what I have heard, though to be fair I have no concrete proof. I have heard of >30% in some parts of ATO. Notification on Jan 28 (I believe this is accurate as it is consistently being communicated down under different VP's).

This has been going on silently for several years now. For some reason they just finally started to admit it to everyone recently. Could be a tactic to scare more people to quit on their own by getting this out in the open finally

Most likely starting towards the end of next week 1/25 ... 1/28/2019 , I suspect this week actual headcount numbers on a per department level are being finalized, then likely this weekend through early next week all the directors and AVPs will begin getting their marching orders (again speculating actual timing likely different per each affected division) .

Then from that point on it's up to these managers to meet their numbers based on their projects, resources required and existing contracts with contracting firms..

Remember AT&T has a quarterly conf call on 1/30 that's when you'll get the full sense of what the larger picture plan is..should be an interesting call.

if you wanted out voluntarily you had your chance last year. we will see involuntary surpluses quarterly for the forseeable future. T wants people off payroll just before the next quarter starts so notices sent end of janruary april july and october.

You're not going to see lots of big moves. Just tons of little nicks and cuts to avoid the WARN act paperwork. It's always like that.
