Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Closings

Everyone on here assumed closings would be announced in January. Truth of the matter is - rather than do a sweeping close, they're just doing them on a one by one basis throughout the year.

These stores are closing out east. Included is their closing date and/or their WARN filing date.

Sam’s Club 8204 (Louisiana) 3-16

Sam’s Club 8212 (Alabama) 3-16

Wal-Mart 4167 (Knoxville) 5-10

Wal-Mart (Chesterfield, VA) 5-10

Wal-Mart (Virginia Beach, VA) 5-10

Wal-Mart (Columbia, SC) 3-29

Wal-Mart (New York, Capital Region) - filed 2/13

A number of states do not list their WARN notices online. These are available to see online in their respective states' warn notices.

8204 and 8212 were part of the closings in 2018.

4167 is likely because it's just a Walmart at a college campus and has two supercenter's to the north and south. Walmart is not focused on their smaller format locations anymore.

That leads me to that the Chesterfield, VA Beach and Columbia are Neighborhood Markets. Walmart already shuttered the vast majority when they closed the vast majority of these a few years back.

The last one is a fulfillment center that is merging with another fulfillment center.

So we have old news, a continuation of closures of a format they have rejected on the longer run and a lateral move. That's just the facts. Did you have any... new, news?

@wsd

I don’t think anyone was saying the announcements were in the news before a closure. I believe they are saying they have heard legitimate news stories regarding these ones listed above. You can google search them and find something on about all of them. Especially the Tennessee one. There’s a guy who did a YouTube tribute to mourn its closing.

They will not announce anything on the news before a closure. How dumb do you think we are?

This is what Wal-Mart does now, plus they pay people off with severance to keep their mouths shut. Not a bad word in the press.. at the moment. Not a bad plan either.

I had already heard about several of these in the news. Guess they’re starting on the east coast and working their way over...
