Doubtful job is going away, at least not where I am. Entire SF Bay Area region is hiring. Lots of new shiny fiber everywhere.

Prem tech.? One of the worst jobs in the company. 2nd tier pay and benefits .Many just quit during their shift cuz it's so bad .They are doing away with that job. Good luck

To OP. It is somewhat a numbers game. You will have to apply for hundreds of jobs anywhere and everywhere. Comfort zone or even a stretch. Each time you speak with a recruiter ask them for advice on your cover letter and resume. You will constantly be improving. It will take 4 to 6 months and dozens of interviews. It will even become a huge snowball. Get all the certifications you can, keep pushing, praying and NEVER GIVE UP! You will

Eventually get to your next dream job. Its extremely important to really visualize and see yourself already there. Who or what can stop you if you just don't quit! Free from someone who was once in your shoes!

OP- Hang in there. Keep applying and try to network with people in the biz you want to be in. Be persistent.

Doing excellent work and being credentialed aren’t enough anymore. The best thing is that with your drive, education, and experience you’ll have options outside att if needed. What you’re going through many of us are also experiencing.

There is no future in this company. See the handwriting on the wall. If your not on the wireless side, the numbers will continue to shrink.

Take a step back and look at your amplify (brand statement) , resume and cover letter and see what will make you stand out. Trouble is a ton of candidates apply and it is hard to stand out. Promotions outside of your GM org are very tough. There is good reason though as a lot of positions have a high degree of technical skill (even sales & marketing) which would be hard for someone coming from another field. Not impossible, but someone with direct experience has an advantage. Keep the faith and explore lateral moves with a plan to move up

With the many current managers getting surplussed and looking for jobs within the company, why were two craft people promoted to management in my office (Indy) within the last six months? I’m happy for them if that’s what they want and they both deserve it but it doesn’t make a lick sense especially in the near obsolete wireline line of business.

@vmo: sorry but this is not true. The first job I applied for I was an external candidate and I was hired to a union position. After 18 months I applied and got another job. After another 18 months I applied for a management position I was prompted and paid for my own relocation. Today I interviewed for a different management position that the hiring manager said I was the top candidate for. She was very genuine when she said that. The fact is not all of these positions have someone waiting for them but it’s critical you have a cover letter to address anything your resume doesn’t. If you find ways to stand out you’ll get promoted or at least another job on the same level.

Let’s be honest. Everyone that has ever worked at AT&T knows that long before a job even hits Taleo/HR One Stop, it is already known who is going to get the job and when they are starting. It’s all about who you know

I was a prem tech from Chicago and now on the dark side of management. Honestly, it’s tough when you’re a tech and you think there’s no way out. Stay posistive, apply to jobs within the company that are outside of your comfort zone and build a rapport with your boss and your AM. They can make you or break you for promotions. Keep trying and dont give up sir!
