I was one of thousands who was surprised in January. My surplus letter stated "your position is being eliminated". This week I was notified that my job is being bankrolled by someone in a collaboration zone and they want me to train them. Talk about twisting the knife!

Every time I have to call HelpDesk, I want to tear my hair out. It's all outsourced to India, and they don't listen to what you are saying, so it takes hours to do something simple. I'm so sad our IT folks have been decimated! The decline in the quality of support is evident and noticeable. Best of luck to you in a much better, hopefully higher paid, work world wherever you land! I live quarter to quarter like the rest of the workforce at AT&T wondering if this is when that surplus will happen.
I have spent years learning everything I now know to effectively support Bvoip over ethernet order management. I am insulted that they think this can be brain dumped on some slides and given to someone not even familiar with US telephony.
Yeah att is sub human. Disney was sued by employees who had lost their jobs but had to train their offshore replacements. I never heard about the case. Funny you hear about them but you never hear about how the case came out.
This should be illegal. You have employees who helped make the company what it is today and then you dump them and force them to train their replacements all the while saying their job has been eliminate when the work still exists.
The org is ATO.
Tell your boss sure I can help you with that! Smile and wave... screw the outsource people very slowly... Train them upside down, teach them the wrong way!
Another reason not to take the 60 days and move on as fast as possible.
If they could figure out a way to outsource the field tech jobs to India they would. At least for now the commute is too far, even if they home garages them.
i also regret not discussing my situation with an attorney before signing the release waiver, not that i thought i would win, but maybe go to arbitration or something. a great deal of these layoffs seem so they can churn the work force in favor of either younger employees or off shored work. it might be business, but it ain't right. at&t is a very evil and deceptive company.
The circus music has stopped for me. I volunteered to go last summer. In the last 10 years, I've been "surplused" and had to train off-shore replacements three times. My heart goes out to you folks. Good luck and God bless you all.
Same here...my position was not eliminated, I was.
Yes should be illegal to be forced to train replacement if your $$$$ is at stake.
it is not 60 days to find a new job, it is 60 days to train your replacement in a foreign country. it is a trap.
Yike, what org is this in? There should be a law against such actions, unbelievable
When my job was outsourced, I had to train the guy who came here from India. Talk about a kick in the teeth.
I was notified my position was eliminated in Dec and off payroll in feb. They wanted me to do the same thing but for our friends across the pond, phillapeans..I could see my replacement team names in Q under my current manager. I politely declined stating my position was eliminated so unless they changed my notice to state the truth, I would not be helping with that. So not sure who trained them but I know I didn't.
I did the same thing last year. It’s all bull cr@p. To this day i thouroghly regret not taking the other option to leave earlier and bail on their sorry asses earlier
