Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Certain groups of this company are like a dumpster fire, take note and either do what you can or get away fast

1.) Management is terrible. I see Managers not acting as leaders but directing their reports to take on tasks without understanding the full scope of what they are asking. These managers do not take into account the current situation and just make knee-jerk reactions for how it should be going forward. These managers do not gather feedback and charge ahead and it’s mainly to make themselves look good to who they report to, typically it’s for an SVP. Keep this in mind. You are a pawn in their game to make themselves look good. Your manager does not care about you. The majority of managers at AT&T are not leaders, they do not support the people they work for and the main reason why this company is failing, losing great talent and will continue to fail unless this c-appy management module can be turned around.

2.) The employee survey is coming up. Start calling out specifics. The results are gathered by a third party and you should know that the company only knows that you have taken the survey, they will not know what you’ve said in your survey. You don’t like your SVP’s decision to severely cut costs at the expense of the product’s performance and quality, which will impact customers? SAY THIS IN THE SURVEY AND NAME NAMES. Stop being generic in the survey, it will not come back to you. You want to make a change? The employee survey will help. The more people start calling out specific BS decisions and horrible ideas, the more this is going to get noticed and eventually something’s gotta give.

3.) When all else fails, leave. If you can’t make a change or if you find that it’s not worth it, get out now. I get it, you may be waiting for that package, but is your overall happiness worth it?

Totally agree with #3 - I resigned from T and have never looked back. Life is too short to keep worrying about layoffs, where to log hours in fuse and managers who could care less about you as a person.

Issue in bring anonymous is articulation and being verbose in your answers. Between email responses. Q responses, group meetings, one on ones, etc you get to know how your employees respond. Got one guy that writes Twitter. Takes about 2 seconds to identify his responses. Got another who makes good suggestions but can be sarcastic. Same there.

Not true about the survey as their are key details in the survey that can pinpoint a person....Each Manager gets a copy of responses for their direct reports and there is a section that identifies specifics such as the yrs of service for folks who felt positively or negatively on a specific question....It was very simple for me to determine who was positive and who was negative on a particular questions as in the 30 yrs of service or more I had only two people reporting to me in that category......and only one employee in the less than 5 yrs of service category regarding responses....So although I did not know the individual by their ATTUID I kind of knew who gave a positive or negative response to a question by the yrs of service...….Other answers were just so obvious as I know how my direct reports articulate their responses.....I have to say I agreed with 90% of the feedback received overall.

Yeah #2 is a really bad suggestion nothing is anonymous in a company this large, NOTHING. Instead why not explain what is wrong the the system and provide a solution or the expected outcome.

What are you worried about speaking your mind? If any of you think you have a long tenure ahead at AT&T you are wrong. You don't. It's a failing company that is past the point of no return. Just tell our lame assed "leadership" what you think. You might end up a quarter or two ahead in your departure but as Emiliano Zapata said: "Es mejor morir de pie que vivir de rodillas” (It is better die on your feet than to live on your knees."

screw you who do you think you are telling us how to respond in the survey. why do we put in our attuid if it is so anonymous.

they want us to tell them how to do their job then they should step down and let someone who knows how to run a company run it.

@XKvLI8m-tft On good authority that the company is not provided the responses? Sorry friend, you were lied to. I've had a copy of one of the reports that the supervisor gets in my hands a couple years ago. The employees comments but not their name or attuid was in it.

I knew they were worthless, then one of my old bosses told us exactly how to answer them. CYA at it's very best.

You would be wise to heed the old Japanese proverb that says “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.”

In my department the surveys are given more than lip service especially if there are defined responses. However some want to use it as a contractual mechanism. You will not be given more company holidays or a in building cafeteria. Surprising how some are upset because those items are not addressed after the surveys.

The comments, not your UUID, are provided to Area Manager. Just don't use your normal writing style. We have 6 people left right now so everyone has to try to fool the manager .

I would suggest that if you have recently had a hard discussion with your boss about tardies then bringing up the that issue is kind of a marker. I never knew for sure who made what comments but had a decent feel for about 30%. Hell, even had some folks tell me word for word what they put down if they were upset about a issue.

That is incorrect. The surveys are handled by a third party. The company only knows whether you took the survey or not. The company is not given information on specific employees responses. I have this on good authority from an upper leadership level employee. @XKvLI8m-qvn

The responses to those surveys go back to your boss. It might not have your name on it but a lot of times they can figure out who said what. What could anyone possibly say in a survey that would make any of the leadership team change direction? Nothing. Because direction starts at the top and works its way down through the chain and the top is only interested in spreadsheet contents right now and doesn't want to hear about how bad collaboration zone conditions are to work in.

The surveys are not anonymous. They get filtered down to the group level and they can tell who is saying what and they are used for the lay-off lists.
