Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is there any part of the company that is growing?

DTV losing subscribers, 5G not even close to producing any real revenue, the streaming service is nowhere yet, is there any part of the company that is making a real profit? I wonder how this state of affairs will work when the company debt starts maturing.

To make everyone feels better after the layoffs, they just gave John Stankey a 15 Million dollar raise.

Yes. There is an growing number of Executives, Presidents, VP’s, Directors, and so on. They are all making a real profit. Also growing is the desk removal service team. Workload has doubled. Can also look towards monitoring services. It takes up to 15 employees making 100k each to monitor anothers work. 1 to verify you checked your page. 1 to verify to moved the ticket to take. 1 to watch your VTS. 1 to see why it took you 30 minutes to do your job instead of 28. 1 to coach you to improve 2 minutes. 1 to review your job close statement. 1 to compare your work time vs. others. 1 to compare your travel time vs. others. 1 to put all data into a spreadsheet. 1 to analyze the data. 1 to reccomend changing alloted time down 1 minute. 1 to approve the change. 1 to email it out. 1 to build a powerpoint presentation. 1 to document their success. All that to shave a minute while the tech is the one on the ladder hanging midspan in 30mph wind with cars sliding at him sideways through his cones giving the customer service. That’s why we sell a $65 landline and CATV sells it for $20

The poster who mentioned the lack of organic growth makes a good point when you consider the fixed costs are going up. They have to increase the dividend yearly or the stock will crater even more. Add in bonuses, minimal salary raises, contractual raises, etc. You can only negotiate equipment costs down so far. To raise free cash low for a stagnant business to pay off debt these easiest thing to cut is people.

The debt continues to grow.

To the poster who talks about a goodwill surcharge. One day your job may also go overseas...maybe you could at least show compassion for folks who have lost theirs.

Not much organic growth to speak of. This company has mainly grown on acquisitions the last 10 years. Not much new business, except maybe small amount of business fiber sales. Wireless is dead, TV is dead, Landline Phone is dead, 5G will create some growth with smart cars, and some VR stuff. but not the billions they need.

Yes, there are parts that are growing. Remember the company did not have a loss last year, the profits were just not as high. My department is profitable and growing.

You guys should add a social justice fee to each mobile line. No one would object to it, and it would pay for your various goodwill programs.

Some of the new services that are growing are not as profitable as the old services. And the old services are not as profitable. A few years ago I took a look at my mother’s landline bill. Seems she was still paying for features that hadn’t been used since the kids moved out. Got rid of most of them. With competition and new technology we can no longer give customers the opportunity to pay $800 for T’1’s. Company has developed the technology to identify those customers that sign up for promotional services ,that are offered below cost, and know they will shut them off when the promotion is gone because they have been customers numerous times in the past. Attracting money losing customers to show growth numbers is a thing of the past.
